Is this normal for a pistol?

This is my only semi auto pistol. It's a SW Sigma .40

The slide is hitting the block and scratching it:

That's normal.

The only way to keep your gun from acquiring normal "working marks," is to keep it in a box, in the safe and only handle it with gloves. Oh, and never shoot it.

OR, embrace the marks as "character building" for your gun!

Ah, that sucks. Ah well, it's made to be shot and it will be shot some more.
 
My first handgun was big monster HK .45Auto. The black coating wore on top the same way.
