I've been saying i'm gonna get one of these for a year or two, and finally pulled the trigger. I found the ( i assume discontinued) Marlin model 60 SSK, which is the stainless steel with the plain black synthetic stock, for $209 at Barrow automotive in Butler,Georgia. (great operation if you live in the area, we've been fans of theirs for decades now). I almost got the wood stock version at Wally world a few days ago, but decided instead to make the 2 hour round trip and get the one i've had my eye on. I got a set of Leupold rings, and will be mounting a Weaver V7 2.5-7x32 scope that i recently scored a killer deal on. I'll hopefully be breaking it in tomorrow with the Federal bulk .22 from wally world that so many here like in their 60's.
Anyway, thanks to all here that have chimed in while i researched this rifle.:)

So i put a couple drops of oil on the bolt and took it to a freinds property to zero the scope. I shot at a couple nickel-sized dots i sharpied onto a peice of plywood, and started shooting from about 45 yards resting against a tree-stand post. About 10 shots and 3 or 4 adjustments later ( mostly vertical), i was all over the bullseyes. Loading the tube-style mag was considerably quicker and easier than loading 10/22 mags. The rifle fired flawlessly, both slow firing and rapid firing.
It's exactly what i'd been told it was,i'm happy as the proverbial pig, and wholeheartedly recommend this rifle to anyone considering a semi-auto .22.

some years back I got one of those in trade for some work and sold it to one of nephews, he took it down and cleaned/tightened all and assembled then put a Simmons 4X on it. he practices on walnuts offhand at 50 paces and rarely misses- don't want that lad shootin' at you.

Dang ya........ Have had my eye on a stainless 60 at a local store and came real close to buying yesterday. Went home and wished I did. Now I guess I'd better run back down there and buy it.

I agree. Model 60's are very accurate and can be made reliable if they are not currently. I added a model 70 (magazine type) and like it a lot but not as much as the 60.

I probably won't scope mine, but even with the basic factory open sights, which a lot of people would call inadequate, the things still hard to miss with at reasonable ranges. Mine get shot at the range more than anything else I own and it loves the Federal bulk pack.

good pickup, it is hard to find those new, with the synth stock these days, usually it is plain beech or laminate for the stainless.

That's a good price for a new stainless steel one. And fine rifle - was just shooting mine this morning, and my friend's kid who went along (was only his 3rd time to ever shoot, age 10) - the model 60 plastered a smile on his face. :)

it was my first gun, got it from a friend when i was 18 4 years ago and its still the first gun i grab when heading to the range or varmit hunting.

i put a 3-9X40 tasco scope on it and she does 1/4 5 shot groups at 50 yards with CCI mini mags, federal bulk pack it will do about .35inch average groups. the M60's love mini mags
