I just purchased a new Kimber 1911 .45. Once the slide is pulled back it is very difficult to release by depressing the slide lock lever. Any suggestions?

Did you take the magazine out?

P.S. Don't slam the slide on an empty chamber, it can beat up the sear engagment.
Yes, the Army manual said it was ok, but you don't have a seven pound trigger to stand up to it. Or unlimited spare parts.

Interesting! Several months ago I had the same problem with a new Ruger SR1911 that would not release the locked back slide using the two supplied Ruger mags. When I switched to some old Colt mags, my problem went away. BTW, no problem releasing the slide with loaded mags. Bad Ruger mags to begin with.
