Kimber firearms

What are the opions on the Kimber 1911's. Im considering one but would like some feedback from those that have/had one.

For the most part, there are better choices for better prices out there.

That being said, the only good thing they have going for them is that they have so many different models and they are always coming up with different color combos, grips, sights, ect to give them a unique look when basically most are the very same in different clothing.

Having owned several, and still own 3... i'll never buy another one after all the problems ive had with them and their customer service is garbage.

I think Kimber makes some of the best looking 1911's on the market, with that said I decided to save some money in lieu of some of the negatives that kimber is catching as of lately.

I will keep watching and we will see. One Dealer nearby actually to my surprise put them out of his store, saying that getting warranty on them was impossible, and he could no longer argue with them and the customer who just paid over 1K for a pistol.

I dont know?? I still like there guns a lot, but I am just watching them.

I just purchased this Taurus 1911 .

I have never been un-satisfied with any of my Taurus purchases so I wanted another 1911 45 and seen this one on Gunbroker and liked it! It had the harder to find BullsHeadWalnut grips.

This one is All Steel...frame and all! under $600

Did their QC taper off at some point in time or have they always had issues? This is not the first time I've heard complaints about Kimber, and supposedly their designs use some MIM parts that aren't up to snuff. I just ask because I bought a used Custom II 4-5 years ago. I think I've put close to 2k rounds through it without any issues other than an occasional stovepipe. It has a crisp trigger, decent accuracy, and to me was worth every cent of the $500 or so I paid for it.

I have the Warrior and a Pro Raptor; both have been fantastic with zero, zip, nada, nema problema, issues.

So happy Kimber owner here; mine are accurate and reliable.

The super carry looks nice but I wont buy any Kimber until the meet Springfields prices. They are the same guns.

The early Kimbers were great pistols. I still have an early Pro-Carry and the Classic. Things changed when management changed. Now its sorta hit and miss and two or three years ago their new sub compacts really had problems.

Kimbers are a great $800 1911.

Beyond that price, there are far better options.

Bought a used Stainless II at a heck of a price. It almost looked like it had never been fired. But the slide locks back occasionally. And it doesn't do it enough to pinpoint the problem. Plus the trigger is a little heavy for my tastes. Crisp, but heavy. Nothing like my Gold Cup.

I haven't cared much for their offerings since they introduced they Series II safety. Seems like the series II safety is when they started having QC problems. First, it didnt work (or worked too well, depending on how you looked at it). They got it sorted out and the small parts started breaking. Then it was external extractors.

Then Smith and Taurus came out with 1911s that work, so I didn't bother keeping up with the Kimber lineup.

I love Kimber's pre-series II guns. I own four.

I have five Kimbers. The reason I don't have six is because they haven't made a model that I want. Maybe that will change with the new 9mm.

Friends have about another 7-8 Kimbers.


Quite simple, I can buy any guns I want. What I can't do is buy every 1911 model to try it out just because it is supposed to be a good gun, so I stick with a proven winner.


I have tried to talk my friends into buying other brands so I can see if they match up to the Kimber.
One friend bought a 2-3 thousand dollar Wilson. After having several problems with it, including feeding, he now says, "I wish I had my money back so I could buy a couple more Kimbers".

I have two Kimber SS Solos on order. Seems like I am not the only one judging from the lenght of time I will have to wait.

I have two Kimber 1911's, a modified Pro Carry II 9mm, and a Rimfire Target. I also have a Rimfire target conversion that I use on my Taurus PT1911. The pistols were both trouble free out of the box. The conversion had to be sent back because the slide stop hole was not drilled correctly. I had it back in ten days with problem fixed and a 50 round test fire report, good CS as far as I'm concerned.
I modded the 9mm with Cylinder&Slide hammer group, Wilson Combat SS ambi safety and mag well, and Kimber SS slide stop, grip safety, and night sights. Happy Camper with all my Kimber products...

I have a Kimber along with a Baer and Wilson. For the money, I think they make a nice gun. I also think their customer service is good. I have over 10,000 rounds thru mine with no problems. I have had several minor issues that my local gunsmith took care of quickly and at little cost. Virtually all my guns have had some work done to them as they are shot on a regular basis and not kept in a safe.

I am fortunate to own three Kimbers. Stainless II, Custom Target with a .22 conversion kit, and a beautiful Dessert Warrior. All bought used, all pretty much perfect.

The Dessert Warrior seems tighter toleranced than the other two, and does not like certain flavors of ammo. The Stainless II is the best pistol in my tidy collection and was quite a hit my CCL class. Go for it.

I have a TLE/RL II. No issues with 3k rounds through it. Never needed customer service. Any CS operation can be hit or miss. Springfield seems to always get high marks for CS

I wanted a 1911 made in the USA. I can't afford a Wilson, Baer or Brown or Dan Wesson.

I'd buy another and as a matter of fact looking at the 10mm Eclipse.

Sorry you opened up a "can of worms"~! Kimbers are all over the board,
lovers, haters, folks chiming in that never owned one in their lifetime,
also, some folks that never did intend on buying on in the first place-
even if they made the finest 1911 on earth, that money could buy~

Here is my stance, and my stance only~! I have owned two, a 5" Raptor
and a 3" stainless Ultra Carry II; both in .45 ACP. The Raptor is long gone,
but the STS Ultra Carry II is my EDC; as it has worked well for me. All of
the BS 'bout 3" 1911's having malfunction problems, and wouldn't even
feed 230 grain ball ammo is heresay for the most part. And, a lot of it
does come from the "keyboard genius" that just so happens not too like
Kimber products. Yes, they are expensive, and yes they have the ILS safety
system; but most of them work flawlessly, including my 3" STS Ultra Carry
II. Their QC and CS departments leave something too be desired; but you
do your part with a Kimber, and I believe that most of the time the Kimbers
will do theirs~!!!!!!!

I've got a tactical pro II that is accurate as he'll and just as reliable. Liked it so much I picked up SIS Custom the other day. Couldnt be happier!
