"People who couldn't even bring themselves to say the word Democrat a few years ago are now willing to join arm-in-arm with the Sierra Club to save the Eastern front," said Ryan Busse, 34, vice president of Kimber Mfg. Inc., a high-end gun manufacturer in Kalispell, Mont.

Seeing as a lot of people didn't grasp this, and having some small experience using the language professionally, let's break this down:

"People

certain members of society

"who couldn't even bring themselves to say the word Democrat a few years ago"

Who hated Democrats previously, and possibly still do now

"are now willing to join arm-in-arm with the Sierra Club"

are willing to vote with former antagonists

"to save the Eastern front,"

snide reference to WWI and WWII, where we didn't really LIKE most of our allies, in reference to environmental issues.

This is akin to saying, "The NRA and the ACLU both object to law XXX."

NOWHERE in here does he say that he supports the idea or agrees with it personally.

Now, in true WWI fashion, he's being required to "Damn the Kaiser!" (look it up online if confused) to "prove" his position.

I'm really not happy with Bush' admin allowing more stripmining in WV. OTOH, I don't think Kerry will be any different. You choose your fights.

But nothing in this statement is a personal or corporate endorsement or critique of any politician. It's just a case of quoting a in industry expert as saying "Some people" feel that way. Which is true.

I can state for the record that "people who wouldn't have considered it twenty years ago now vote to give the UN more authority." Doesn't mean I AGREE. Just means I'm aware it HAPPENS.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
