I avoid all of these problems and issues by using my custom one-way-only springs. Contact "sm" and have Steve send you some.

Free shipping if you order a quarter dozen.

Buy a half dozen and I throw in a one set of the new genuine imitation gold plated ones.

A dozen gets one free shipping, the gold plated spring, and - the grips screws for polymer guns with the neato tool .

Just because I like you folks.... :)

Along these same lines...

I've been advised that, when dry firing, to cock a 1911 by racking the slide -- instead of just cocking the hammer with my thumb. It sure is a nuisance to do it that way, and I'm hoping you guys will tell me I got bad advice. Thanks.

I think you got bad advice. There is no reason you can't dry fire by just cocking the hammer (the slide does that anyway). It does pay to put an empty case or snap-cap in the chamber to prevent over-compressing the firing pin spring. Otherwise replace the spring frequently.
