Been meanin to take this Walker frame down to grey only for awhile , and do some touching up here and there on it too . Took most of the CCH off the loading lever and plunger too , reblued it with Birchwood Casey Alluminum Black , turns CCH steel a purple-blue color . Also used my antiquing on the brass trigger guard . If nothin else it does look different :D ....

Sorry my friend but those grips look like crap!!!!!!!!! Will pm you my mailing address and I will take the ugly nasty things off your hands ;) Looking good as always :D

Magic Ginormous

Just kidding , on these I used the Aluminum Black also , buffed um out after I rubbed it in and let dry , oiled it , buffed again .
I used the Brass Black on the Kentuckys I did , but it comes off easier than this stuff .

NobleSniper , you know you coudln't stand to have two piece grips on A Walker now could ya :D ... There is no way I could let you be so Hysterically incorrect , so I think I will spare you on making you endour the ridicule of pollitical incorrectness of having my grips . :D

Thanks , Jaeger

This stuff?

If that's the product, it does a great job making brass look great! I'll add that to my arsenal for future use.

Look's good and believe me. I know a good looking Walker when I see one.
What kind of steel you have in that knife if I may be so bold as to inquire?....

Real crappy steel

hee hee hee . :D You asked , I told :D
$80 , you do the math :D ...Another gift form a girl no less . :) But , it does hold a good edge , and only cuts bunnys in pieces .

GOTC

those Bowies are those Winchester Comemratives . I don't know where the "SS" steel comes from , but at $80 each , it must be China ? They may not be that nice of knives compaired to a cutom hand made , but they are actualy pretty well built nonetheless .

Das Jaeger , oh and thanks for the Walker Compliment :) , I sure love the Walkers :D

I am a fan of the 1847 Walker Colt and shoot it more than my other guns.
I make my own blackpowder which has better velocity than pyrodex, though it is
a bit inconsistent.
I am having a problem someone may be able to help me with. I am using CCI #11 primers
but have never been able to shoot a complete cylinder without a jam from bits of the
primers splitting off and locking up the action. Any suggestions?

RBezona

This was just hit upon on the thread by Pohill , CAP SHEILD< there are several versions to fix this issue if your having the issue :D

Jaeger

Hmmmm.... me thinks me likes that treatment to some sad CCH ! I know of a Walker with that VERY issue ! Some Bozo got after it with metal polish, not knowing what the end result would be. :D

What say you Bozo

I didn't do the Frame in the Alluminum Ratdoggy68 , just the loading lever and plunger , frame just took down to grey , like yours :neener: , with metal pollish :D
You can turn that CCH into real dark purple if ya want though , jsut keep putting the stuff on , buff off , blah blah blah .

Jaeger

Heh, it is now. Some of the CCH remains, but nothing like it was. Not that Uberti has ever figured out how to CCH steel.

I am going to try to CCH some scrap steel in my BBQ pit for laughs and giggles. Just need to some up with an airtight crucible. I've though about lining a steel paint can with fireplace mortar, but maybe that's overdoing it for this test. Anyway, gonna have plenty of rib bones, char and whatever else I can think of to toss in there after I get to grilling out today. :)

Have you tried slightly raising and canting the gun to the right as you cock the hammer?

Try experimenting with a different brand of caps or installing a set of Treso nipples.

Maybe there are small adjustments that can be made to the length and shape of the cones, so as to help soften the hammer strike and improve fit.

Do you have a large barrel/cylinder gap?
If the cylinder has a lot of play maybe you can tighten it up using the wedge.

Ginormous

Thats how Colt found out how to CCH on thier guns anyway , it wasn't on purpose :D Who knows maybe a nice big Rat from Higenes yard crawled in there and thats how they learned bone charcoal method ? :D

Jaeger

Plenty of crows around lately. Might chuck one of those in there. They're not in season presently (who eats those anyway?), but in GA they can be classified as agricultural pests if they are causing damage. They look to me to be tearing up my carefully mowed and manicured lawn turf. Now if I can just find my Crossman air rifle . . . rats with wings for the crucible!

You know Ginormous ,

never know what colors your gonna achieve doing that stuff , thats for sure , even Doug Turnbull started out some place , and I bet it was at the BEGGINING :D
Different Tannins and Acids in the Charcoal woods produce different colors , so the worlds your Crow/Rat infested paradise I am thinkin :D ...Same with bones , different bones , different animals , different foods they ate , etc . Wonder how Kentucky Blue Grass eatin Crows would actually work ? I guess you will be finding out soon enough , God Speed on finding the .177 caliber pest Terminator . Believe it or not I have recipes for Crow in my Texas Cook Book . From the people I have talked to that eat it , they say its pretty good . My Dad ate it when he was young and they were poor too . Its all in how you lookat food anyways ? Some people think eating Squirrel is disgusting. Of course they have never eatin squirel dont ya know :banghead:
