Loose Rear Sight on T/C Contender Barrel

I know, not a revolver, but not an auto either...

The rear sight on on of my T/C barrels is loose. One full house load too many I guess. Before I do something silly like punch the roll pin out of the elevation hinge on the rear sight to access what I hope are loose screws underneath it holding the sight to the barrel...

Am I warm or is there another way to fix this?

Have you tried backing the elevation screw all the way out?

You should be able to get to the mounting screws that way.

You shouldn't have to punch the pin.

You have to back the elevation screw all the way out. I cant remember if you need to push the hinge pin out to get to the front screw or not. There are 3 screws under the site that attach to the barrell. I reccomend using a little locktite on them just to be safe so that it doesnt happen again.

To access the mounting screws on some iron sights on the Contender, it's possible to just back the elevation screw out and swing the sight up. On other sights, the roll pin must be removed in addition to backing the screw out, there isn't enough clearance to swing the sight up. Count the number of turns to get the screw out and put it back in the same number of turns when reinstalling (or if your sight has them, see where the marks line up on the side of the sight and realign them when reinstalling) to get the gun close to the original zero. You'll have to sight it in again. There will be a short coil spring inside which sits in a recess inside in addition to the loose mounting screws.

Make sure to put a little thread locker on the mounting screws before reinstalling the sight or you'll have to go through all this again.

Looks like I have the model that doesn't just swing up. The lever that pivots on the roll pin and the sight base both have hooks on each side that engage to prevent this. Out with the pin and in with some locktite!
