Greetings,

Too many choices....I am in the stage of choice paralysis and need your help guys. I am sure with your input, I will unfreeze.

I have quite a few m1 Garands. I want to scope one with the S&K scope mount. I am not looking to have a historic reproduction. Just a scope on one of my Garand to have some fun.

I have many scopes on many guns: Acog, Nikon, Fullfield II, TRS-1, Sightron, ect...

I am looking in the variable range 3x to 9x-12x range.

I saw the Redfields and the price looks very good. I am very very tempted. Should I go with Redfield or go with a Nikon Buckmaster, Fullfield II or something else that went under the radar?

There are 2 important things I think:
1 - It must be resistant to the recoil and keep the zero. With my Garand, it is not rare I have a 100-120 rounds session.
2 - I read if the windage turret is too nig, it gets in the way of ejection or worse, the way of feeding the gun with the clip. So no "tacticool" turret for the scope.

Thank you

If your budget allows, maybe a Zeiss Conquest? The glass is quite nice for the price point and it should have no problem withstanding the recoil. I had one on an 8mm Mauser for a while, and my boss has one on his 300 RUM.

Yes I did consider it. However, after shooting a lot a scout configuration with another rifle, I decided I dont't like it. And trust me, I tried and tried and tried. I know the scope would be mounter on top of the barrel lower than the other mount.

I read a little bit more about the Redfield scopes and I found an overwelmy, like the Nikon Buckmaster, amount of good comments.

Maybe a vintage scope like a Weaver K2.5 or K4. This have very short adjustment knobs. I use both on mil-surps and find they hold zero and are very capable of shooting at the 100 and 200 yard line.

I have the S/K mount on a HRA Garand an love it. I have a Tasco on it now, but after buying a Nikon Prostaff 3X9 for the M1A I would recommend it for the Garand. The Nikon has held up great on the M1A an has a lifetime warranty. On the Garand I turn the turrents, not to difficult to figure out, makes loading alot easier. That mount stays solid as a rock on the Garand. It is a little tricky because the scope will set a off to the left, so I put a stock cheek pad on an its better, but not perfect.

Greetings,

After hours or research, I am considering Nikon Buckmaster (I already have one on a 308) and the Redfield. I read too many good things about the Redfield and the price is very right.

About scopes offset on the side of a rifle, I resolved the issue. I no longer have to offset the point of impact. I did it on my K31 Swiss with a no tap no drill mount on the side. and from 50 to 500 yards I only have to worry about the bullet drop.

We say images are worth 1000 words. Here are 2 images. As you see, the scope turrets are canted. To make it straight, I hold the gun canted so the + is leveled and in straight vertical line with the barrel. It is not even uncomfortable because it puts my wrist to a more natural position when firing and the butt stock on the shoulder fits better. I plan to cant my scope on the Garand the same way.
