I've been looking into getting a tactical man purse of sorts. Has anyone had any experience with Maxpedition's Thermite Versipack? I like the fatboy but I think it's a bit too big and bulky for my needs and I'm not sure I like that it only works well on the right side (although I emailed them and they said they are working on a left sided version). I like the ability of the Thermite to be worn over the shoulder or on the leg but the pictures on the website don't really give me a feel for the interior. Does anybody have one of these and could you post some pictures? Thanks everybody

I have had the Fatboy for about a week now and really like it so far. It is not as bulky as you might think. I believe they must use smaller models on their photos to emphasize the bag more. The bag is well made and I love all of the pockets. You can also read more about these bags on http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/

I purchased mine through http://bladeart.com/

They were very efficient in delivery. I ordered it on a Monday afternoon and received it in the mail by Thursday, which is not bad since they are in Florida and I am in California. You will find that prices are pretty much the same everywhere, give or take a nickel. I plan on adding one or two of their pouches in the future for added utility.

The only thing I do not like is that I cannot fully use it's capabilities for CCW since the PRK does not believe in our RKBA.

:fire:

If Denny Hansen doesn't respond, I think his son (?) Flint Hansen had a review in a recent issue of SWAT magazine. I think you could download the PDF from their website.

After reading Skunkabilly's review, I purchased a khacki one from countycomm. Took about a week.

Skunky's daily loadout/dress is oddly similiar to mine, and the Fatboy filled the bill perfectly. Got the flashlight, pen, lip balm, Oakleys and some other items out of/off of my clothes. I can also carry items in the bag that would normally be in the jeep or at home (hand sanitizer, couple of diapers (in the big, 'secret' compartment, for my son, not me), leatherperson, notebook, reload for the Gun of the Day, etc.

He posted a great review :http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83685&highlight=maxpedition

As he is a smaller fellow, I am a bit portly at 5'10/215 and I don't think it's too big or small, but just right. My significant other has a less-than-politically correct term for it, but I refer to it as my Tactical Dad Bag. I actually think it's pretty neat looking.

I'll post more/better pics and detail tomorrow; I am wicked tired right now.

I have the Thermite..courtesy of the boyz at tadgear

I use it for hiking...it holds some basic essentials along with my camera and...oh yeah...my 642

I don't think much of shoulder slinging it....and I don't use the leg strap

But is is a pretty nice unit...I wouldn't want much more carried in that position

While i like the idea of a bag to carry even more stuff for edc, I still cant wrap my head around the idea of a manpurse. I might consider one for wilderness use, as you could cram a survival kit, fak, and a bunch of other goodies in there with no trouble :).

I believe Skunky carries camera paraphernalia in his. I have a 13 month old, so between my style of dress (ratty cargo shorts and white t shirt over a tank top) and the tot that I am toting, people don't give it a second look.

I like my Fatperson but wouldn't want it on me all day long. I use it more as a frequent on-off type of bag. Put on bag, go to car, put down bag. Put on bag, go into work, put down bag. Leave work, put on bag. Get in car, take off bag. Go to market/bank/lunchbreak, put on bag.

For carrying around alllllllllll day, I'd prefer something like a daypack. Depends on your style I guess.

Thrash, have you decided on your pack yet?

Still thinking on it. Leaning towards the Thermite. I've been looking at pictures of it and sort of inventorying what I would put in it and what I would leave on my person. My CRKT M-16 I would leave in my pocket where it always is as well as probably my cell phone (this would depend on whether or not I was carrying it all the time). Flashlight would go in the bag along with my leatherman, lighter, other multitool with scissors, possibly cell phone and possibly a spare magazine. On body would be Beretta, wallet, keys.
