Okay, so a wee bit of "Everybody Panic!" news reporting, but still... "rocket and hand granades"!? Why do methheads have hand grenades!

Weapons found at lab site include a rocket

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Bullitt County sheriff's Department and federal agents have raided a meth lab and found a variety of booby traps and weapons, including a rocket and hand granades.

The raid yesterday afternoon was on a mobile home and shed a mile off Kentucky 245.

A spokesman for the sheriff's department says military weapons were found under a shed on the property. A variety of weapons also included ammunition, black powder, and what was believed to be C-4 explosives.

The homeowner, 36-year-old Garth McWilliams, was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant for failure to pay child support, which gave authorities probable cause to enter the mobile home.

No charges were filed in connection with the meth lab or the weapons, but McWilliams is being held without bond.

"We're not worried about the dangerously corrosive drugs and chemicals, nor the explosives, but by golly people round here PAY their child support!"

Rockets, Weapons Stockpile, and Meth Lab all found in a mobile home?

Hes only missing a moonshine still.

Only in Kentucky...

Desperate times make people do desperate things. If there were jobs where people could make an honest living I do not believe there would be so many incidences of this. Unfortunately all our jobs are being exported to China, India and other countries so corporations can make larger profits. :fire:

I was a cop in Kentucky in the 1960's. This is hardly a new phenomenon. There is a long tradition of booby trapping things among moonshiners and marijuana growers. The more things change the more they stay the same. Best, Joe

FMJMIKE,
Job loss is no excuse for illegal activities. There are plenty of jobs in this country for those who want to work.
You may have to move and you certainly need at least a high school diploma just to serve fries.

Service industry tech jobs are good but it takes effort. Anyone I've seen who makes an effort won't fail.

The days of three generations working in a textil mill are gone and people have to change with the times.

Wanted a golden lab but couldn't afford one, so I got a meth lab and now I can afford any dog I want.

Joe Sacco...

Your post brings to mind Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road".;)

"...Now the DEA's got choppers in the air,
I wake up screamin' like I'm back over there.
I learned a thing or two from Charlie dontcha know,
You better keep away from Copperhead Road."

Prosecutors are probably putting the explosives, etc. through tests to determine exactly what they had. Once finished, the DA can file more (accurate) charges.

no charges filed for the meth lab or weapons? are they kidding. arrest him for failure to pay child support but not file charges for a meth lab of hand grenades...wow

If drugs were legal folks would just have to go out and find something else to guard with rockets and c-4 explosive.:D

Stories like this always make me wonder how much is correct and how much is garbled or even untrue.
Remember, we get the story " filtered" through a reporter.

In my area some years ago, there was a huge flap in the news after local police EVACUATED an entire neighborhood while they searched a house. The news was full of confused stories about bombs and machine guns.

I watched the follow up stories carefully over the following weeks. Eventually the truth came out, buried deep in the inner pages of the paper:

There were no illegal guns.

The "bomb" was determined to be a WEIGHT from a CUCKOO CLOCK.

There was a small quantity of marijuana, for which the homeowner was charged.

Seems his ex-wife had called the cops with some exaggerated stories.

Whenever I read a story like this one from Kentucky, I wonder if what was actually seized won't turn out to be a Thompson-Center muzzleloader, a can of Pyrodex, and a roll of Liverwust.

I just *have* to steal this for a .sig!

Well, firearms are supposedly the preferred payment for meth. Most meth heads tend to be the same class of people that likes firearms the most, rural white people, or "rednecks" as some call them.

As far as the rockets and hand grenades, maybe he made pipe bombs and rockets himself, but I wouldnt be surprised if he bought them. There is a lot of stuff on the illegal market. There's little criminal markets that sell Jennings and stuff, then there's other serious stuff available to others.

Huh?

You know, I've had an interesting life. I know people in pretty much every walk of life. Bikers to inner-city former 'bangers... Guys who wore the 8-ball back in the day...

I've NEVER heard of that sort of arms bazzar in the US. Certainly not so that more than two or three people would be aware of it... Are they possibly operated by the same people who back the trucks up to grade schools to pass the saturday night specials out to the schoolkids?

I'm sorry. I couldn't help it.

I will save the Kentucky jokes for later since I used to live there. Go UK!! Go UT Vols! This is near Louisville. Meth labs are popping up all over the place and the wave is just hitting KY. The charges will be substantial if the reporting is accurate. That guy is looking at a lot of time in the big house (if convicted). .... there goes those child support payments......

I would be interested to learn more about the booby traps. Guarding your crop is common. Booby traps around a meth lab are not so common. Tells you something about what meth does to your brain. It is one of the reasons I can not go along with the Libertarian view on most drugs.
