Hello all....I've been reading other THR forums where people talk about the front part of the slide cracking on the micro desert eagle. I shot less than two boxes out of mine with regular factory ammo and experienced a cracked slide. How common is this? I am thinking they should recall the MDE. I left an after hours message with Magnum Research and time will tell how they will make good for this. I hope all goes well and when I get my replacement, I hope that its extra durable because I plan to shoot 1000's of rounds out of it. I know one thing....if it happens again, I will demand a refund, because when carrying something for self defense, its gotta be reliable and durable.

Yup, Seen it before myself on several gun forums.
Im sure you shouldn't have any issues getting it replaced.
When you contact the company make sure they send you a prepaid box for shipping it back to them or take it back to the store you bought it from as either should pick up the expensive shipping.
IMO even tho this happens its still a very nice quality gun. Its just so small shooting some pretty hopped up .380 loads that are on the market these days.

Mine cracked at about 180 rounds.
Called Magnum Research. They sent a prepaid UPS label and got the gun back to me in record time.
No problems since.

Funny thing was, the slide cracked sometime when I was shooting this target from 52 yards and I didn't know it happened until later when I was cleaning the gun.
52 yards, standing two hands.

I don't know if there have been a number of slides crack or it sounds like it because people like me post it a lot on the Internet. Magnum Research wouldn't tell em how many slides had cracked.

IMO they need a better buffer in the gun. The slide hits the frame pretty hard.

In any case I'm confident enough in the gun now to pocket carry it.

Several magazine articles I've seen have referred to this gun's "gas assisted blowback" action.
Isn't it actually a gas RETARDED blowback action?

they call it a "delayed blowback" to where some gas exits up and forward through two small ports in the rear of the barrel, allowing a lighter slide to cycle and function as a "blowback." Still, it seems that too many of us have had cracked slides. When I talk to MAgnum Research on the phone, I'll ask why, not sure if they will tell me why so many of them are malfunctioning....my guess is they will say it came from a "bad lot #." Maybe some gunsmiths out there can tell us why this is happening.
