Any Mississippians out there with permits? I am planning to go down to the Highway Patrol station in Starkville for my carry permit soon. Just what should I expect?
It requires two trips. First to pick up an application package. Then you have to fill it out, get it notarized, attach a pic, and bring it back at a date and time specified for CCW permits, at which time you will be fingerprinted and photographed, and pay. They will mail the permit weeks or months later after the FBI fingerprint check. I don't think they take personal checks or credit cards. Ask on the first trip.
A new law lets you mail in your renewal application. You have to go in for finger printing every other time. Also, the delivery time has been reduced. Can't remember the number of days.
It's a fairly painless process.
Only reason I have one is to avoid the silly phone calls for background checks when buying from a dealer.
Yep, I made two trips to Starkville because I didn't know that they only processed the applications on Thursday mornings. Wednesdays in New Albany. Anyway, got it done! Now I am waiting. Until my permit comes, I carry in my vehicle and while at home, getting used to it.
A friend also went with me and two more friends are getting their applications ready! The more the merrier.
Sorry, if I'd had seen your msg just a little earlier, I'd have let you know about the Thurs. morning deal! It may take a while to get, I think they were 120 days, but I have heard they are speeding up the process a little bit....
pick the Highway Patrol Link, select "forms" from the left side, and there you have it at the top of the page, "Firearm Permit Application Package (Individuals)".
