Modern Rifle During The Revolutionary War

The same scenario but back in the Roman Empire or ancient Greece. One guy with a matchlock BP rifle.

One man with a matchlock would have gotten killed once he started to load his match lock. Even during the 1600's, pikemen had to back up the arquebusiers.

Cortes conquered the Aztecs with less than 1000 Spaniards, but even with his steel, matchlocks, cannon, and horses, he would have been wiped out if not for thousands, if not tens of thousands of Indian allies!

Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire

the indistinct people in background of this painting, would have been Indian tribes hostile to the Aztecs. Cortes never had that many Spaniards. Aztec weaponry technology was between bronze age and stone age. Still an Macuahuitl was reported to cut a horse's head off with one blow. Spanish technology was enough to make a difference, all things being equal, but it was very close thing. I recommend reading the classic "The History of the Conquest of Mexico & the History of the Conquest of Peru" by William Prescott.
