In the Marlin M336, with reloading, the .35 can be run up to 2,300fps with a 200gr bullet and with a 180gr to over 2,400fps.
The cost breakdown will slightly favor the .35Rem vs. a .45/70. As far as game performance, the .35 will definitely out perform the .44mag beyond 75yds. Inside that, I doubt that you could tell the difference. I can't. Even compared to the .45/70, the .35 comes in real close.
For reloading the .35, you can't do much better than the Remington 200gr CorLokt RN. At 2,250fps of my handload, a 2.5'' high setting at 100yds gives approx a zero at 150yds and 4" low at 200yds. Neither my .45lc nor the .45/70 w/315gr FNGC can quite match this. Besides, my .35 with the above load has given MOA at 200yds.
I favor the .35, but wouldn't readily give up my .45/70.
For game MUCH bigger than whitetail deer or pigs, the .45 would be favored.
ie: elk, moose or great bears. (or what you'd run up on in Alaska)
