I just received a Mossberg 464. This is the brush gun version from Davidsons with a 16 inch barrel, Marine coat finish and laminate stock.
The stock is the nicest looking of all my lever guns and the fit is better than any of my winchesters or Marlins.
This has the williams firesights and although these are viewed as an upgrade I think I prefer the old style buckhorn sights.. The firesights are too fine and take too long to get aligned for my taste.
I would call the action a cross between and 94 AE because it has a rebounding hammer and a 336 because of the round bolt.
The top of the receiver is open but it has a band in the rear so a 2 piece scope base can be used. It ejects to the right just like a winnie angle eject.
The tang safety is very stiff which I think is good as I don't see any reason to ever engage the safety under normal use as the trigger safety keeps the hammer away from the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled and lever held firmly.
The tang safety will be useful during decocking and storing when loaded.
The hammer will fall when the safety is on but is blocked from the firing pin very much like a cross bolt safety on a Marlin.
I only shot it 30 rounds with the open sights but accuracy seems on par with all my other lever guns. It does have more bark than the 20 inch barreled 30-30's though.

I ordered a Simmons 1.5x5 shot gun scope with the diamond retical from Natcheze so in the next 2 weeks I'll shot some groups and see where it's at accuracy wise.
Overall I'm super impressed with this gun. Of the current lever guns I think this is the one to have although I don't necessarily like it better than my older non safety 336's.
