I am trying to decide between the 3" S&W 317 and 5" NAA black widow.

I wonder how the single action and longer barrel of the 5" black widow competes in accuracy with the 3" 317 but then I am also concerned about how accurate 22lr bullets are out of the widow's 22 mag barrel.

Other suggestions for compact 22lr kit guns would also be appreciated.

While the NAA Mini Master is a neat little gun that's very well fitted and crafted, I doubt seriously it's up to the accuracy of a J frame sized gun. I'd like to hear about the Mini Master and its accuracy from an owner, because I've often thought it'd be a really nifty gun to own and shoot, not that I need another friggin' .22. :banghead: It's such a carryable, easy to take along little gun, though, and if it could put 'em into, say, 2" at 25 yards, I'd seriously consider buying one even though I have a quite accurate little Rossi M511 along with a few larger .22 pistols that are accurate and fun. I'm pretty sure the Mini Master would be better accuracy than the Black Widow and I'd want the adjustables on it.

Thank you mcgunner

Your right its the minimaster that I was thinking of and I just found that it actually has a 4" barrel.

I am going to check into that Rossi now.

I have a Black Widow (2" barrel in .22WMR) and though accuracy wasn't a reason for the purchase, I was not dissapointed. It's a good shooter, *easily* beer can accurate at 15yds.

Uh, when I do my part, I can easily hit soda cans at fifty paces with this revolver.
It holds eight shots verses five too.
As for "Most Compact" the North American gun will beat it on all size issues.

Rossi no longer offers a .22. The 511 was a fantastic little kit gun at an affordable price. I lament its passing. They're available used here and there, but you won't find a new one.

Another compact little gun, since it don't seem to matter if it's a single action, is the Ruger Bearcat. However, the lack of adjustable sights sorta puts me off, though it's a cute little gun and quite compact.

Here's a pic of my Rossi. With plain ol' Federal in the 550 round box, it'll put 'em into less than 2" at 25 yards, amazing for a little budget kit gun. I shoot this gun about every range trip for DA practice and just plinking fun. DA trigger is a little rough, but good practice for trigger control. The SA is fantastic!

That is my 317 Airlite kit gun.
I think they all now come with a fibre optic front sight.
Mine came with a ramp front that I didn't care for so I switched it out for a Partridge blade.
It also came equipped with fairly large for the gun Uncle Mikes rubber finger groove grips which I also replaced with the ebony wood boot grip.

Bearcat! The sights on mine are perfectly regulated. My only gripe is that I get leading after about 300 rounds. It comes out easy with a copper brush, but it's still annoying. It's really not much bigger than the NAA guns, but offers much more utility. The best part is that the lockwork is still the Colt type where you half cock the hammer to load and unload.

Another vote for the Stainless Bearcat. Uncannily accurate, fixed sights are easy to use and won't go out of whack, grip fills your hand well unless you're meaty-pawed. I can't imagine a kit gun being any smaller and still practical.

Best of all, that little sucker is heck-for-stout. It would take a lot, a lot, of effort to damage a Bearcat.

Well I couldn't quite decide on the compacts and so kind of got commited to a k22 4" combat deal but now seeing that bearcat I think I will get one of those as well.

Get the Ruger single six

you get an extra cylnder 22 mag, and that is always nice to have

I had a couple small 22's, opted to replace with a snubby 38, as my "kit gun" and bought a MKII 22. I can bust clays sat out at 70+paces once I get the range. If really wanting a 22, you may want to look at the short barreled Browning or Ruger. For 22, semi's are fun. I found my Single Six to be cool but not fun. I did look at a Bearcat, a NAA Black Widow last week and they are tiny. If revolver and 22, thit is the oe Bearcat si the one I'd get.

I had saftey concerns with those little NAA revolvers.

They have a little notch and if the trigger does not rest on it it could fire if dropped.
Also you have to take out the cylinder to reload it.
Not much fun while at the range.
But great for the most concealed carry.
