I'm in the market for a .40, and was wondering what you guys would recommend. I saw a black FN Hi-Power in .40SW at a gun show last week for $420 and was tempted to buy it. How do those shoot?

Also, pics of the .40 you recommend are encouraged:D

I have a Glock 23 and a FN hi-power in 40 and both have been very reliable with the edge for me going to the hi-power, it's heavier and holds a few less rounds but boy can it shoot. I have numerous 1911's and other firearms but the HP is an absolute piece of work! and the hi-power is very easy to conceal if that is a concern.

1st choice: HK P7 M10 ($2000 and up)
2nd choice: Glock G-23 ($400 and up)

Yes, I have owned both. I still own the Glock...

I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a 'most reliable .40', I imagine that quite a few will all be as reliable as each other. But you may find from your question which brands/types aren't reliable by their omission.

I can vouch for my Taurus 24/7 .40. Goes bang, hits the mark and loves all ammo. About the only thing it doesn't do is clean itself.
Also comes with a lifetime warranty.
Did I mention it's easy to find a cheap one? Seems Taurus gained a bad reputation in the past and old prejudices are hard to shake off so many retailers discount these guns.
A good deal all round.

H&K makes a pretty damn reliable pistol.

USP40 compact!

I've had mine for nearly five years and have put thousands of rounds through it. Not a single malfunction of any kind.

EVER.

I've owned a few 40's...a Para P16-40, a Glock 23, a USPc 40, & a Beretta 96 and I must say, they were all 100% reliable w/ a variety of diff't ammo. Out of the bunch, my fave was the 96 tho.

Both my HK USP Compact 40 and Glock 23 have never had any type of failures. If you are LE/FD/military, you can get a new Glock 23 for under $400.00. The HK will set you back hundreds more.

The one that works for you every time. A reliable gun for someone else may not be reliable for you.

My S&W 40VE is 100% reliable with over 2500 rounds through it.

My little hand nuke - Glock 27

over 700 rounds of all different kinds....no failures of any kind

No contest here....Springfield XD 40. I recently bought the 'Tactical' model with teh 5" barrel and love it. I've owned Glocks and think the XD is superior in many ways; including price.

Try and rent several guns at a range so that you can 'test drive' several makes and models before you decide.

beretta 96 DAO. no hammer spur or decock lever. none needed. revolver like performance, pull trigger waaaay back & it goes bang every time.
