Motorcyclists, what are you carrying?

For what I do to remove the gun from the bike discreetly. My tour bike (Voyager) the fairing pockets are lockable and plenty secure so it's a non issue, but I also have a tankbag that is small enough just to throw over the shoulder with the strap and use it as the dreaded "Man Purse".

In the summer here I wear a Joe Rocket armored mesh jacket with a zip-in liner (Sahara Liner) that you soak in water first. Really helps with the heat.

But I tend to put whatever gun I carry in the trunk of the bike - I've been down twice in my life and falling on a gun is not something I want to do. No one is going to draw while actually riding (our Metro bike cops actually practice that but no one's ever done it) but I am banking on the hope that I have time to stop and get to it. It's a compromise.

Remington 870--riding shotgun

Seriously, since I wear my leather vest (and I have a CCW), I normally have my Taurus snub-nose (.357) on the hip. But If I'm going to go through some rough areas (of Charlotte), I'll carry my Colt Delta Elite 10mm on my shoulder (under the vest). Sure, it does stick out but I'm usually wearing it at night. And who cares if it shows, I have a CCW.

In Texas, if it is "conspicuous", you're apt to be arrested and if that happens, you will lose your license. It must be completely concealed, no flashing, no bulge, nothing obvious.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If you ride, you will eventually go down. That gun tucked against your ribs or the bones of your pelvic girdle probably won't seem like such a good idea when you hit the pavement.

I always carry when on the bike. I carry in a Coronado concealed carry vest. I'll have a Smith 640 in the inside pocket. When my wife is with me she carries too.

I ride my beemer every day everywhere I'm going. No matter what, I wear my Firstgear Kilimanjaro since it's ready for any kind of climatic change.
the right chest pocket has a kind of pull away zipper so you can grab the pocket and open it up. when I'm carrying and not transporting a weapon, I keep it there. I have a lanyard I connect the weapon to so I don't drop it on the road.
Generally though, if I have time to whip out a weapon, I have time to zip away on the BMW. So, I don't sweat it that much.
However, I like Biker's method and weapon choice. I may go to that.

Thanks you too!! I just put a E27 cam and a mikuni carb in mine for this year. I bought the bike new and it was always a pooch. What a difference; gets up and runs great. I have 57,000 miles on it and I would not hesitate to drive it cross country. Uses no oil between 1500 mile changes. 3 years ago we rode 90 mph all the way home from Sturgis 600 miles. Purred like a kitten. 15_8_2111.gif HCH

i carry in a sabergear thigh holster. i usually pack a kimber BP ten II or a G27. there is also plenty of room for cell phone, xtra mags, flashlight, or whatever you feel the need to haul around with you.

the thigh pack stays with you. it is not good for IDPA or IPSC, but with practice you can present your shootin' iron pretty dern fast.

BTW the pic is not me. it is a pic i found on the net.

To a great extent it depends where I'm going to be riding, the weather conditions and how long of a ride I expect.

I once made a weekend trip during the summer heat, wearing my armored motorcycle jacket, and carried a holstered full-sized pistol (SW99 .40 S&W). I carried a couple of spare magazines on my person and several spare magazines in a case packed away in my backpack. The altitude changes made for cooler weather in the mountains, part of the time, but it was miserable in the flatlands. Ugh.

Next similar trip I made I decided to take my 642-1. I carried it in a small digital camera case, worn on my belt, which also holds 5-6 speedloaders, but doesn't even look big enough to hold the gun. (The kind of case which does NOT use velcro on the belt loop, BTW. ) Even carried a couple of speedstrips in my pockets and a spare box of ammunition in my backpack. I had more ammunition than I had carried when I previously carried the larger pistol and spare magazines, but I hardly knew I had the gun with me. I was able to ride as the weather required or permitted. Very comfortable trip. Of course, the armored jacket stayed home and I took my regular leather riding jacket, as well as a lighter weight jacket packed away that I could switch to wearing during the ride.;)

For just riding out & about in the Santa Cruz mountains or over on the coast I generally opt for the 642-1, either in a belt-case or inside a jacket pocket. The belt-case permits some shifting of the weight and placement on my belt. Lets me ride wearing a T-shirt, too. (I know about sleeves and such, so save your breath. ;) ) Kind of like a little 'gun fanny pack', but much less obvious. It's fooled more than a few of my peers when they discovered I was carrying an off-duty weapon, and not a camera or PDA.

Depends on how I feel, and what the weather's like. I ride for enjoyment, and enjoy some comfort while riding, too.

If the weather's cool enough that I know I'll be able to comfortably wear a jacket even while off the bike, or if I'm wearing a loose, long-sleeved shirt as a light riding liner under the jacket (and can remove my jacket while off the bike), I'll sometimes choose to wear a compact/subcompact belt-holstered weapon.

Just depends. How comfortable do I want to be ... considered against what risks I perceive, or feel I should reasonably anticipate, depending on my planned riding for the day.

I use the same pocket in the same jacket.;)
A P7 fits in there like it was made for it.

I have a 2005 Suzuki S83 and I carry a Kel Tec 3AT in a MP3 player holder on my belt.

Fastbolt,

Can you post a photo of your camera bag setup? I am looking for a way to carry my Glock 27.

The camera case I use for the J-frame won't even begin to fit my G26/27, or even my CS9 subcompact. The J-frame fits inside in a slightly tilted position. If you know what you're looking for, you can tell where the muzzle pushes down in the center and where the grip pushes upward.

Here's a clickable picture of the case, holding the J-frame and 5 speedloaders (outside pocket), alongside the only other digital camera I had available. Then, there's a picture of the case next to my 3913 inside an older Blade-Tech folded paddle holster.

I've found larger cases that will fit the subcompact pistols, but they're noticeably bigger. Guess it depends on how much weight and bulk you will accept hanging off your belt. It's so easy to tell a lot of off-duty cops by their waist packs in the summer weather ...

I really prefer to use my leather jacket's zippered inside breast pocket, which was intended for glasses, I believe. It holds the J-frame inside a cloth holster, so I can slip a couple of speedstrips inside the same pocket, where they rest securely against the outside of the bottom of the holster. Gotta reach past the empty holster to get at them, though. Besides being convenient, an advantage is it takes the same reaching movement to go for extra ammunition as it does for the gun. I can virtually forget I have the gun and speedstrips in my pocket while riding and walking around.

It's still a compromise, though.

Yes, we are both have the same idea. I like how the small pouch on the front of your camera case breaks up the profile of the cylinder. Below is my set up with my Kel Tec 3AT.

What I would like to do is find something similar for my Glock 27. The canted angle like you have is what I have been thinking might work. The problem is you can't exactly try out the case in the store. I have gone to various stores with a ruler but like you wrote it seems anything that might work ends up being rather large.

Anyone out there have a Glock 26-27 set up that they can posts?

I carry the same all the time whether I'm on the bike or not, Sig P229 .40. I carry it the same way as well, OWB at 5:00 position. I really don't have much problem keeping it concealed under an untucked, oversized, button-up shirt. On road trips or colder weather I generally wear my rain gear upper (mostly for reducing the wind burn) and it's long enough to cover it as well. I suppose if I was forced to wear a shorter jacket I'd probably switch to my Taurus Mil-Pro 9mm in one of the inside pockets and just keep the P229 in my bag.

Nice Suzuki, BTW.

I almost bought one when they were called the Intruder 800. Probably would've been a more fun bike than the Vulcan 800 I started I picked up.

Then, I almost bought a 1400 Intruder when I wanted to get something larger, but went with the Yamaha Road Star Midnight Star 1600, instead.

I have this thing for black bikes, it seems. I'm considering getting one of the Roadliner or Stratoliners in black sometime next year.;) http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelhome/485/0/home.aspx

In Ohio we cannot carry concealed while in a car or on a motorcycle. Since I have to open carry unless I want to walk or ride a bicycle I carry my Taurus PT140 in a Fobos paddle holster.

Kahr PM9 in a pocket holster in a zippered breast pocket on my jacket, or in Thunderwear if no jacket.

Cooler weather with heavy leather jacket, OM size 1911 in a horizontal shoulder holster.

It all depends on where I'm driving and what I'm wearing.

Outside of N. Virginia, I will open carry. With chaps, I will ride with my Ruger .45lc Birdshead Vaquero. The holster does not have a thumb lock, so I only ride with it if its secured with my chaps or held in place with the belt going over the outside of the hoster.

I sometimes carry the G27 with the Galco Fletch holster with thumb lock (correct term?).

With tee-shirts, I will either carry the Taurus snubby on a open hoster (Wild Bills) or in a pocket holster (if the pants are lose enough).
