I bought my son a Marlin 925 (bolt action .22 long rifle) recently and we have been shooting trying to get his skills up to par. I have to admit, I had forgotten the simple pleasure of a bolt action .22! It is accurate, handy to carry, and not a tiny replica of a firearm.

I told my son when mom asked what I might want for Christmas to mention one of these! With a nice scope it would by a nice little squirrel killer. Don't get me wrong, I will not totally leave the centerfire behind or retire my semi-auto squirrel gun, but working the bolt manually after every shot does make you want to shoot more accurately.

I know exactly how you feel. I got a marlin 60 a several months ago, fell in love with it, then more recently got a CZ 452, and went for months without touching the 60 !!

I'm a huge believer in a good .22lr as a trainer for exactly that reason. I use my CZ452 with a fixed 4x on it as my general practice rifle. I'll 5 rimfire for every centerfire cartride on an outing.

Plus, yeah, a real .22lr rifle is just a flat out hoot.

Earlier this year I bought an early-1970's era Marlin(Glenfield) Model-25 .22 Cal. Rifle for just over $100 (US). I think (not 100% certain) that the Model 25 is an early version of the current Marlin Model 925? Anyway, I really enjoy firing that rifle. It is fun and .22" Long Rifle cartridges are sure a lot cheaper than .303" cartridges. Glad I bought that rifle.
Thanks
Mark

I had a Marlin 925m until recently and I had alot of fun with that little bolt action .22 mag but decided the squirrel was just as dead with the .22lr

1/2" with 5 shots at 50 yards out of my 925 with Wolf target match ammo, 3/4" with CCI mini mag 36 gr. hp. Took a squirrel at 63 yards in the eye ball one morning, that particular day I got my limit of 5 all with head shots the closest being 20 yards.

I love my little 925, best trade I ever made.

I shot darn near every gun collectively owned by my best buddy and I the other day and wouldn't you know, I had the most fun shooting a lowly .22.

I sat in the grass with a 525 round box, my late grandfather's Ruger Mk. I, and shot at 25 yards until the bull was no longer there.

It took about a half hour and probably cost me $4. I then went and shot some tactical doohicky, blew through $40 worth of ammo in a few minutes, and felt a small amount of remorse. :)
