With all the talk recently about Walmarts around the country who are suddenly getting out of selling guns, I thought I would share some happy news I discovered today:

My local Walmart is actually ADDING guns. Black powder stuff to be precise. They have never carried anything but shotties and .22 rifles (and of course air rifles and pistols). Today I walked through the sporting goods area and noticed a 4-foot section of gondola had been cleared out and what used to be there had been shifted over and kinda compressed onto less shelving. The shelving was mostly empty, but one thing caught my eye and that was a BP rifle "starter kit". You know, the rifle, some cleaning supplies, some bullets, various BP-related tools, etc all inside a plastic clamshell package hanging on the rack. I looked around and there were two more sets of racks which were still empty but labeled for different model rifles. There were also 4-5 shelves where the ticket strips were full of labels for all kinds of BP stuff. . . tools, cleaning stuff, accesories, bullets, sabots, etc etc. Only a few items were actually in place. In one spot was a folder of papers with a planogram for where all the products were supposed to be going.

I hope this doesn't mean that the .22s and shotties are going away though. If not, then this is a little bit of good news from Upstate NY

Note: A Bass Pro shop opened up here about 1.5 years ago. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Could my Walmart be not only keeping guns around but actually FIGHTING to have a better selection?

Just read in most recent issue of American Rifleman(NRA) that W-mart will stop selling firearms in 1000 of its 3800 stores. Wal Mart said in stores where there is sufficient demand, "nothing will change".

My local Wally World stopped selling guns. They still sell ammo at good prices... if you can get somebody to sell them to you. The last time I had to call to make an APPOINTMENT. No loss, since they sold no handguns and nothing but boring budget hunting rifles and shotguns.

All the guns vanished from the local Wally World about a month ago.

The black power stuff they carried tended to be the inline stuff, which has no appeal at all to me. If and when, I want an old time style hammer fired gun, or better yet a flintlock.

My local wal-mart still has nice variety of shotguns, high power rifle, and 22's. When in season they have black powder rifles all in line. At the end of last season they sold all the b/p's dirt cheap $35-50 for the low end guns , I wish I had more money then, they sold out fast. Some of those guns were priced at $70- 110. I am waiting to see if they have the same deal this winter I will be prepared to buy a few. :D

Do what I do in that case. Just grab the phone, press the page button (usually marked) and say "Customer needs assistance in sporting goods. Associate to sporting goods" and hangup. If there isn't a page button marked just dial 0 and tell the operator to page someone to sporting goods - make sure they know you're a customer.

Works every time...
