I'm constructing a new website and got an idea. you know how THR members post photos of really beautiful guns and we drool over the keyboard. I have space on my website template that would look nice with a couple of gun pics. I was going to pull random pics from the internet. my fellow members, if you got the time I would be grateful for your pics. they will be un-named of course so no identifying text. THANKS ;)

this is not a contest, and I have room for about 5-8 pics that will be placed in borders to a few pages. this is just to take up space that would otherwise be blank. the pics can be guns you WISH you had, or guns you own. thanks:D

fantastic... I'm going back to the site now armed with a variety of gun pics. THANKS :what: ....I'll be there a while so if you members post more it will take a while before you see them. they will be on all the pages until full :)

SoCal.. I'm looking:uhoh:
edit: that banana clip is going on my wife's page, she might take it off. I saved it in "my pictures"

The second to latest addition to my collection. My current carry piece, with the serial numbers skillfully filed off (in photoshop :neener: )

Look in the Creative Commons!

That way a) you can be sure that you're using pics that aren't subject to copyright / royalties and b) someone who places their gun photos into the Creative Commons gets to see their work amplified!

http://search.creativecommons.org/

Flickr also lets users put their work into the CC, and search by license as well as content; for instance:

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=handguns&l=cc&ct=0

[Edit: not to say that you shouldn't happily take photos offered to you for this purpose by the readers of this board who have taken the photos themselves and freely grant you the right to reproduce the images! I esp. like Mr. Peter's XD shot above!]

Cheers,

timothy

I see you put mine up, very cool. I am glad you liked it. There is no problem with a copyright. The Gun does not exist. the pic is made with the GIMP (something like photoshop) and so I guess it's Copyleft.

To pick some nits, hopefully accurately (but always seeking corrections):

- I haven't taken any intellectural property rights classes (yet) and I'm not a law school graduate unless I can manage to pass another year of classes, but if there's a copyright problem with that very nice image, I suspect it would be in the use of someone else's image / images as starting points in creating the long-barreled beast (unless the starting image/images were themselves released for such a use, or created by you). Just modifying it wouldn't protect you, I bet -- on the other hand, the fact that copyright holders look asanine and petty to pursue certain technical violations, esp. ones that don't seem to harm them financially, protects us all :) I'd like to think it's fair use, sure, and I think it *is* fair, but it's I think not one of the recognized categories of fair use. I could be missing something obviious, though!

- Making the image with The GIMP doesn't change anything in the legal status of the created work. The GPL affects the code of the *application program* (that is, The GIMP code itself as well as derived works) -- you can use the GIMP all day long to create artwork that is copyright to you alone, same as with PhotoShop, or a word processor, etc.

Cheers,

timothy (a fellow GIMP fan -- or, if you're a reluctant user, a fellow GIMP user ;))
