New Glock commercial:

It's been out a while, but still a good one that illustrates a very good point. There are 3 or 4 more videos like this: "You picked the wrong *blank*." All of them are good.

This would actually be an interesting commercial to analyze in the S&T section.

Should she have called 911? Should she have just gone back to the couch? Should she have put something in front of the door to barricade? Did she have sufficient locks (notice there is no deadbolt)? Should she have used a long gun for primary HD in that scenario? Put on some clothing more conducive to a fight, should a struggle ensued?

Did anyone else notice that the "show" she's watching on TV is actually the previous Glock commercial? It's the Wrong Diner ad that came out a couple years back.

On the one hand, it bothers me that the commercial seems to be giving (at least the unexperienced) the impression that just having a Glock will cause home invaders to faint... problem solved!

But on the other hand, I wonder if Glock knew they couldn't air a commercial where a woman puts two slugs in a guy's chest, and his fainting is supposed to be a stand-in for what we all know should really have happened?

I think many here are missing the whole point of the commercial, and how it accomplishes what it is for: TO SELL GUNS, and GLOCKS IN PARTICUlAR. It is aimed at a particular market, that of young males (and older ones like me), and does this in a most effective way: by using a beautiful young woman, followed up by the appearance of an iconic figure (the Gunney) who many can relate to. It is not about proper tactics, follow up, or anything else. Just selling a product using the oldest technique known to man.

If you fear for your life; shoot. Contrary to popular opinion, looks do not kill ... or stun for that matter.

Except they do. Most defensive gun uses do not involve even firing the gun.
You should ammend that to "If you fear for your life; draw your weapon and be ready to shoot."
If the guy faints at the sight of your gun then the job is done and the fight is over. What are gonna put a bullet in him while he's passed out on the floor?
"But officer, I had already drawn my gun, I figured I might as well. Why are you arresting me?"

Nice commercial, but not as effective as the Diner commercial.
I disagree. This commercial shows an armed civilian, a woman in her home facing a lethal threat. The diner commercial shows an idiot robbing a diner full of cops. As far as public perceptions go, cops should have guns. Even the rabid anti's concede to that.

But an armed woman preventing who knows what from a home invasion... I think this perception is more along the lines of what we should be putting out there. The anti's would think she'd be better off with a whistle and a full bladder than a Glock.

Obviously, the commercial would never air if she plugged the guy, Mozambique style. We all know that's what should have happened.

Yeah, like "just the sound of someone racking a shell in a shotgun will scare intruders away"

Thats got to be the most horrible commercial ive ever seen.
It was terribly corny and very low budget. The whole time I was watching I was thinking "Glock should have enough money to make a good commercial". I get it, it had an attractive woman in it. There is an attractive woman on TV every 30 seconds. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That only doesn't make something good.

I don't much like it.

First- considering she lives alone, and wasn't expecting a visitor, she should have had the gun in hand when she first looked through the peephole.

Second- when she finally is armed she did not back far enough from the door, it appears anyway. If he had forced open the door with a hard charge he'd have been all over her being that close.

Third- once the doorknob was jiggling she should have been calling 911.

For me it's a win win win.

I like Gunny. I think he's funny.

I like Glocks. They work well for me.

I like looking at pretty girls. Unfortunately they stopped looking back a long time ago.

It's a commercial. Seems like some of you guys expect a tactical training video or something. It's a real world scenario presented in mildly humorous context to sell a product.

When shopping for car insurance, are ya disappointed because it's not in a white clean room being staffed by Flo or a lizard (or a pig if shopping online)?

Precisely.
With nice scenery.
Watched it again.
Tactics?
Have gun, make it a Glock.
With nice scenery.
Period.

That sort a thing does happen. And as I posted elsewhere, the muzzle end of a handgun can radically raise a criminals IQ.

@19-3 ben
about the clothing: i'm not under the impression that she is going to be hindered in her movements by her clothing, should a fight occur :D
