since the repair which took 3 months looked successful i ordered new grips for the 29. i like the original grip but the gun moves while shooting and sometimes my middle knuckle gets beat up by the trigger guard. i bought houge grips. they arent as thick as i would like but feels good enough. i should have taken a picture of the original grips from the back. both looked good. original vs houge.

we'll see how the shooting goes.

I like the feel of the Hogue grips, most of mine are the soft rubber stocks that come on S&W revolvers from the factory. The only wooden Hogue set I have are smooth sided ones on a Dan Wesson M-15 frame. They’re pretty but a bit slick, I wish I had seen the checkered ones like you have on your big Smith.,

Nice choice, they look great  .

Stay safe!

I don,t like long sessions of fireing heavy loads with the original grips.

Those do look nice. I like the way the checkering goes all the way to the butt. Do the finger grooves fit your hand? For me, that's often a problem with fancy grips. I guess my fingers are too skinny or something.

Love the new grips! The originals aren't too shabby either. Nice way to personalize a classy pistol. Do the new grips eliminate the knuckle busting?

haven't tried them yet . will do so next week but should eleiminate it since the space behind the guard is filled in.

low grip with fingers centered on grooves(bottom)

high grip my fingers are at the crest of the grooves but not too bad(top)

I'll see which feels more comfortable. If I grip it high less muzzle rise but my triggger finger runs out of gas after about 80 to 100 rds of double action but the low grip lets me pull my trigger finger straight back easier but more muzzle rise. this would also emphasize the nose heaviness while I'm aiming.

my son's camera skills sure shortened that 8 3/8 barrel

Those Hogues are MUCH better than any grips S&W ever designed. I tried almost everything on my revolvers and always go back to the Hogue. Guy Hogue was a real smart dude. If forces your hand into the same consistent grip every time.

Not for me. I hate the Hogue design, it's too narrow and the ambidextrous palm swell is akin to a medieval torture device. On the other end of the spectrum, the old goncalo alves target grips that came on the gun are too thick and blocky. I don't want any checkering anywhere near any sixgun .41Mag or larger. Perfection for me is a Roper design from Culina or Herrett's. These three are Culina, made to 1.2" at the screw hole and perfectly shaped.

Well checkering is kind of nice on a hot summer day shooting a match....... Of course that's just my worthless opinion - maybe your hands don't sweat.

Grips are purely subjective and we don't all have the same hands or preferences.

My hands do sweat but I don't shoot revolvers in matches and checkering on a .44Mag becomes a cheese grater on your hands. ;)
