I've recently bought a few pistols that I've yet to get out and shoot. I've got a new Browning BDA .380, and more recenlty a Colt Mustang .380. My wife just got a Walther P22 complete with laser, that admittedly I think I'm more anxioius to shoot than mine.

I'm in VA, and growing up my Dad, brother and self would just go off down some dirt roads (areas we were familiar with) set up some bottles on a log, or atop a sawdust pile, and target practice. It was on outings like this where I was taught how to handle firearms.
But it seems like nowadays it's not as easy to slide off onto some plot of land, and if you don't belong to a hunting club, or gun club, it's even more difficult to shoot.

From what i've seen so far, short of getting on a 2 year waitlist for membership in a gun club, there's just one public shooting range in the vicinity.

I am in the Richmond VA area. If anyone knows of any options in this area I would love to hear them.

Also, if there are other ways, or websites, where I might find more information on shooting ranges, please let me know.

Where to shoot in VA
Ranges in Virginia through the NRA website

Thanks JDoe

I have seen these sites, and from the number of listings one would think there would be numerous options in and around the Richmond, VA area, but there aren't. Aside from two options, which are gunclubs (w/ lengthy membership waits) there is only walk in gun range in the area, that I could find that is.

That's why I was asking if perhaps I was missing something, maybe there's some other avenue for discovering ranges.

Try Va. Conservation Park in Charles City. They have open days Wednesday and Saturday noon to five.
I'm a member at Black Creek, and can take a guest. They are full up for now, but an opening may come up next year.
For handgun only, there's a place in Colonial Heights that I go to also, The Smoking Gun. You pay your money, and shoot, it's public, run by a former policeman.
Southern Gun Equipment in Midlothian is there too, but I've heard unpleasant things about them.

Hey man, thanks a lot. The options you just gave me are better than anything I've been able to find.
I actually grew up hunting in Charles City, so I'm not against a scenic trip down route 5. Of course, I'd rather be able to drive 5 min's, and I could, but the only thing 5 minutes from me is Southern Gun World, and you're exactly right, I won't go there.
I might check out the Colonial Heights option, depending on where it is it could be as close as 20-25 minutes. And I'm pistol only, so that'd be fine with me.

Anyway, thanks again.
