hey guys i just got a ruger 10/22 yesterday and fired about 255 rounds through it :what:!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cleaned it after about 150 rounds (yesterday) and after the 105 rounds i fired today (oiled and barrel cleaned nothing special) anyway what is a modification that should be done or that NEEDS to be done to it.... i am going to put my beeman pellet gun 4X32 scope. also what ammo works best that is cheap? i am using remington golden bullet, i think? it jams for about the first 5 rounds in a butler creek hot lips mag (25 round) so i was also wonering if this was a malfunction in the mag, crappy ammo, or the mag just needs to be broken in.... anyway thanks in advance for your help!:neener:

It depends what you want with the rifle. You can make those tack drivers or just leave it stock. I think stock they are just fine. I personally find the savage .22 rifles slightly more accurate, but like my short handy 10/22.

The jambing with the aftermarket mag, I think its the mag. I have literally 10 factory mags and non have given me problems. I dont believe "Breaking-in" the mag will change this.

Congrats on your new rifle. I like the Ruger 10/22s. They are a lot of fun. And wow, are there tons of after-market toys for it. :) Regarding your question on ammo, here is just the article you need to read. Regarding the Golden Bullet, I just fired off an entire box of 525 rounds of it between Sunday and today at the range, and had zero issues such as FTL/FTF/FTE. I just posted the thread:

It just depends on what you expect and what you want to spend...and you can spend a lot on modifying a 10/22. My primary mechanical mods were to the trigger, hammer, and magazine release. I also replaced the stock with a synthetic. These cost aboutas much as the original rifle. But, you can spend a lot more.

Some guns will need a new extractor and mine started shooting a ton better after snugging up the barrel to the reciever. I love mine exept the ergonomics of the semi pistol grip feel horrible to me and the bolt handle is to small which is easily fixed.

I swapped the stock on my kids for the Tapco "tactical", added scope, 30round mag, and flash hider (like a 22 need one). He loves it and its fun to shoot.
