anyone shot the new ruger sr9 yet. I got to fondle one the other day at the local shop. The gun felt good. Slim, yet held onto high capacity. I don't know if it will be able to compete with glock and springfield though.
 
Posts-wait

You may want to wait a year or so and see what changes or recalls Ruger may make to this new 9mmNATO pistol. Some gun press praise the new SR9 and it does make me want one too but read over the Ruger SR9 posts on this site. They are not all +, :uhoh:.

Gunrags love it. For example, Guns & Ammo claims to have run 12K rounds through it with no cleaning and zero failures. The writer boasted about consistently hitting a 2-foot rock offhand at 200 yards.
 
I have to admit the SR9 being so slim and still having high capacity mags has peaked my interest. I have yet to make it to my local shop to handle one first hand, but hope to do so in the next few days.

Being so slim looking, I wonder how it would be for CCW???

I have shot it and like it. My only complaints are: A) I don't have one yet and B) the saftey is easy to flip off but tough to flip on C) Couldn't decide which direction I liked the backstrap best so will be flipping constantly when I finally get mine.
 
The problem I'm having with my SR9, is I haven't shot any of my other pistols since I got it!

I like this pistol so much, that I'm afraid my other pistols might get jealous and attack it when it's left alone in the safe!
 
I put a 50 rounds or so through one.

The trigger is much better than my P95's double action trigger, but worse than single action. Accuracy was comparable to the P95. I liked the way it felt, although the improved grip didn't improve recoil control for me. I was impressed with its slimness.

Overall, it's a quality pistol.
 
I own a SR9. While I am a fan of Ruger pistols in general , I am not blindly loyal and think they are perfect.

Here is what I like:
Ergonomics
slim grip for 17+1 rounds
Accurate
Smooth trigger at least on mine (your milage may vary)
Design: Polymer frame with a nice stainless slide (now you can get black)
Manual Safety

Dislikes:
Magazine disconnect (easy to remove and I did)
Loaded Chamber Indicator - sticks up to high in my opinion
Had the mag problem but looks to be resolved.

Overall its a nice gun and you get a lot of gun for the price. Mine was $399 NIB. Its a good shooter. I am not going to compare it to Glock as that has been done enough only to say while I like Glock quite a bit the SR9 fits my hand better. But that is just me.
 
Magazine Safety Removal

Say maximus- just how DO you remove the magazine safety?? I can't seem to fine a definitive procedure for this anywhere. G&A said to "pluck it out". :confused:

Either he's an amazing shooter, or he's writing BS. I can barely do that with a rifle.
 
Yeah I thought the same thing. I don't think I have ever even tried a pistol shot at that distance before. 50yards is about as far as I take it for handguns, typically its under 25yards.
 
Here is what is stated in my SR9 manual in regard to +P+/P+ ammo:

SR9 pistols are compatible with all factory ammunition of the correct caliber loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including high-velocity and hollow point loads, loaded in brass, aluminum, or steel cartridge cases. No 9mm Parabellum ammunition manfactured in accordance with NATO, U.S., SAMMI or CIP standards is known to be beyond the design limits or known not to function in these pistols.

Any factory ammunition +P+/P+ etc. seems fine for use in SR9.

A 24-inch group at 200 yards would have been 6 inches at 50, 3 inches at 25.
That is not particularly difficult shooting if the gun is capable of it and you're not under pressure.

Thank you!! Works a charm. The trigger feels far more crisp now when dry firing (mag in or out), and there seems to be significantly less creep. Strangely, in live firing the trigger had this nice crisp feel even when the mag disconnect was still installed- a fact that drove me nuts. :D
 
I love my Ruger SR9. Slim, high capacity, fairly light, okay trigger pull, short reset for second shot, great recoil control, easy to conceal, good sights, shoots to point of aim, adjustable backstap. Nice. Highly recommended.

Or maybe it's consistency in frequency--every 50th shot hits the rock or something. Pretty consistent, but says nothing about accuracy...
 
I love mine!

The trigger took a little time to smooth out but its very easy to get used to and doesn't bother me at all. I'm extremely accurate with it, it has a great size and great ergonomics, over a thousand rounds through mine so far and not a single problem, it goes bang every time. The safety is a bit small but that doesn't bother me too much. I think the SR9 is a winner, got mine for $389 brand new so for a sub-$400 handgun I'm extremely happy with it.
 
my gun shop had an sr9 with a silver slide guess what i put it on layaway it was 429.00, i am not happy with my .32 beretta tomcat i might sell it or trade it later. i put 100.00 down on the SR9 hopefull i will have it soon.i am excited i cant wait!
 
I haven't shot one yet, but I already hate them. I can't seem to touch one without it biting me in some way. When I rack the slide (overhand), regardless of whether the safety is on or off, it takes a chunk out of the heel of my hand.

I think they have some interesting and creative ideas, like the one double-sided backstrap and the user-removable mag disconnect...

...But I dislike other things about them. I really dislike the sights, the trigger pull is creepy and heavy with LOADS of over-travel, the controls are small and somewhat hard to use, and (JMO here) it is pretty homely.

However, if they're anything like their older line of pistols, they work until the cows come home.
