Some of you may have noticed that JShirley no longer is listed on the NFW "masthead".

John's headed to Afghanistan, again, but this time as an officer instead of an NCO. He expects to be kinda busy for a while ;) so we've asked Larry Ashcraft to step in and take on the role here.

We know that Larry will do a good job and that John will be missed until he has more time.

John called me the other night to see if I would mind stepping in for a while.

I'll do my best. I haven't spent much time in this forum, so I'll just lay back and watch how things work for a while.

Between the two of you, and Arfin's frequent visits, I know the forum's in good hands. :)

Not sure yet how much free time I'll have till 2013...

Larry... Oh, goodie. We have a chance to be very, very naughty for awhile then!!

John... Congrats on the promo. Don't try "too" hard to earn it. THR Needs you back!! :)

Thanks, guys. I'll still be around, at the very least in spirit~ Sam still has several knives we collaborated on to roll out! :D

Yup!

I'm sure I'll be getting the occasional dusty and very tired carrier pigeon flying in my window with an urgent message: "BIGGER...and paint it PURPLE!"

:D

Field Test?

Wow, John.

That's a long way to go just to field test some knives.

You will be field testing some knives, right?

Or is this more like "field abuse?"

:D

Dude, do us a favor and watch your six. People who actually know what they're doing and what they're talking about are in short supply.

We need you back here.

Uh, and that would be in one piece, thank you very much.

Thanks, guys.

Arfin, since I'm no longer an infantry mortarman, hopefully no knives will be abused this time.

Did you know a properly treated, sturdy knife of 52100 steel can pry a 38-lb round out of the carrier it's frozen to?

John, God speed and be careful. Post address as available for collective goodies.

Larry, This is one of the more grownup sub forums. Just a bunch of bladeheads having fun.

Be sure to PM us what type of specialized periodicals and DVDs you prefer... but don't necessarily be too specific here on the forum. You know the drill. :)

JShirley: Thanks for going so I don't have to!

Really though, I appreciate the service my brother soldiers give that I'm no longer able to. Thank you for your part in helping keep our country (and more importantly my family) safe.

I know some of us wouldn't mind buying a knife or two that got broke in over in "the 'stan", so here's hoping!

Stay safe and come home soon!

I really appreciate everyone's support.

Rail Driver, Sam's just about to introduce a new model knife based on my experiences and thoughts about appropriate blades for deployed military troops. The first completed version will go to my girlfriend, who's also about to deploy.*

That's Sam's hand, not my GF's!!!
