Imagine my suprise to read in the Alamo rules and regulations that any concealed weapons had to be checked at the security office, and entry into any of the buildings while carrying was prohibited. Got to hand it to the Rangers at the office, they were very cool and non-chalant about locking up my fanny pack for me, and gave me no hassle about getting it back. Still, it strikes me as odd - if only Santa Anna had thought of this! "I'm sorry Senior Crockett - no guns allowed in the mission....you'll have to check Ol Betsy at the security office."

Unless there is a proper 30.06 sign posted in English and Spanish with one inch letters on a contrasting backround displayed at every entrance then the rule is bogus.

Many places put up meaningless signs to scare people into compliance.

Here is what you look for:

PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN.

CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO.

A legal trespass sign that bans the carrying of licensed concealed handguns in Texas must be posted as above. The lettering is to be in one inch block letters, contrasting colors, in two languages, with the specific wording shown above. A sign made according to these specifications will be two to three square feet in size.

Isn't it owned by the government? They shouldn't even be allowed to post a 30.06.

From the Alamo's website under FAQ...

Who Owns The Alamo?
The Alamo is owned by the State of Texas and operated by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Although many believe that Alamo is only the church, or Shrine, it is actually a 4.162 acre complex composed of original structures dating back to the mission period, a gift museum, a library, meeting hall, support facilities, and gardens.

If there is a proper 30.06 sign, it is unenforceable.

So ... if you are not licensed, then it is okay to carry a concealed handgun into the property ...?

:neener:

I didn't see any "30.06" sign - just words to the effect in rules posted to the entrance - any San Anontio members care to give us tthe straight skinny?

I visited the alamo a year or so ago and did not see any signs, but there was a sign on a store across the street. Always felt strange in texas having to constantly look for those stupid things.

Well, this reminds me of a couple of soldiers on leave that were caught in the Alamo last summer. I think one had a 'loaded gun' in the other one's 'holster' or was in the process of putting it there. ;)
It was a boy and a girl soldier I think.

The Alamo is most definitely NOT posted .30-06. I've carried there. There is a little sign that I saw once that has all the rules listed and no concealed carry is mixed in there somewhere. I ignored it. The Daughters of the Republic are a bunch of catty, bumbling, backstabbing gossips unworthy of running and owning such a place anyway (at least their leadership is). They can stick it.

I don't know about the Alamo specifically, but some businesses put up "No Loaded Guns" or similar signs (sometimes on a brass plaque!) simply to placate the liberals - they KNOW that a sign failing to meet the very specific requirements of PC30.06 has no legal standing . . . and CHL holders know it, too.

Hawkmoon, the link "in the middle of the page" was refering to the link on the 30.06 sign. I didn't see anything on the Alamo either. It is state owned land and there were changes made the last few years that limits those signs on land owned by state and local govts.

The irony of posting no guns at a battle site...

Almost like no guns signs on gun shops (I've seen this)...

The idea of posting no guns signs anywhere (like, the criminals care)...

No, it is owned by the State of Texas, and as such, one with a valid CHL recognized by Texas can carry inside the Alamo, despite the posting of any "no guns" signage.

Here in Az, any "no guns" sign is law as long as it is posted and ledgible.

PS Does anyone else find it odd that a handgun rule is named "30.06?" Is there a rifle rule named ".40s&w?"

-Colin

It refers to Chapter 30, section 6 of the Texas Penal Code. It is odd that it happened to be in that section, but I don't believe it was planned to refer to the cartridge in any way.
