I read recently that government was the single largest killer of civilians in the 20th century, deaths totaling over 290 million people. Just stop and think about that for a moment. Hitler was only a part of that! We had Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, etc....
In all of these cases, we see countries where the government was armed and the people were not. Closer to home, in the US it was a crime to sell guns to the Native Americans, and thus in most cases they were not able to adequately defend themselves.
A notable exception was the battle of the Little Bighorn, in which the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapahoe tribes both outnumbered AND outgunned the 7th cavalry. However, this was not the norm, and most of the native peoples were disarmed, herded into reservations in squalid conditions, and forced onto government welfare. According to studies done at the University of Colorado, the total native population of our segment of North America declined from an estimated 12 million in 1500 A.D., to only 237,000 by 1900, a mere 2% of the population 400 years earlier.
WHY HAVE WE NOT LEARNED YET??????
