I read in a gun magazine about the Novak "Answer", which seems to be a one piece back strap. If I read the article correctly, the "Answer" replaces existing back strap, engages the grip safety internally full time and removes the possibility that the pistol will not fire due to too high of a grip or not holding the pistol tight enough. Any one have opinions on this back strap and if using it makes a pistol less safe? If you think it would be less safe, why?

Check "http://www.novaksights.com/what's_new.htm"

Well, it doesn't "engage the grip safety" it completely replaces it on the backstrap of the gun.

I don't think it makes the gun any less safe than any of the numerous pistols that are built without a grip safety in the first place. BHP, CZ75, Star, Sig, etc. But it will bother the lawyer-whipped who worry about courtroom persecution of someone seen to remove a safety. We are told that we are in hot water if we deactivate the grip safety (or magazine disconnector, or firing pin obstructor) and then have to shoot an assailant. Never mind we shot him on purpose for good cause, we have messed with our gun and are now a Bad Person. Wonder what the legal beagles would say if you bought the gun from Novak with the Answer installed new?

Interest in removing or deactivating the grip safety is largely due to the fashion of ever higher-cut beavertails that change the ergonomics of the gun and allow a grip that doesn't clear the grip safety. This troubled a few people with the GI safety but many more with beavertails.

To me "the Answer" is a solution to a non-existent problem. I like the grip safety. Carrying a 1911 cocked and locked, the grip safety seems like a pretty good idea.
IMO, If you don't like the grip safety, and want a SA auto. Buy a CZ, Hi-power or a Taurus.

Thanks

I reviewed the previous thread on this subject and found it very interesting.
Thanks
