NRA Hypocrisy

If you have a license, and they do not have metal detectors, who cares what their policy is. I wonder though if this is true.

It's kinda stupid on their part. If some "crazy" wants to try an pull a "mass shooting" he's not gonna obey the NRA's posted rules.

It's the same as everywhere else....

Are some of you trying to tell me that making NRA headquarters effectively a gun free zone is acceptable, but making a public school a GFZ is not? That the NRA's reasons are better than other people's reasons?

This policy, if true, is completely hypocritical, and totally undercuts the already badly formulated argument LaPierre has been loudly and publicly crowing about.

This is horrible.

assuming this is true....

i dont think anyone here is saying its Ok for the NRA to prohibit CCW....

but if its a mandate from an insurance company or something similar....and not an NRA policy.....then its not fair to call them hypocrites.

I just emailed them to ask if licensed visitors and employees are allowed to carry in their headquarters building. I'll follow up with the answer when I receive it.

Then they should find a new insurance agency. No reason why this should be ok (if true).

Listen guys, a few years ago Josh Sugarman(google him, you will get the idea) wrote an article about the NRA preventing CCWrs from the annual convention, not thier headquarters. The reason was the convention center was barred for CCW, by LAW. It wasnt a choice of thiers. They have to have conventions in big enough facilities, thats just the consequence.

I make this post with the understanding that:

1) The information has not been verified by a reliable source, so it might not be true, and
2) We do not know what security is present.

This is hypocritical on the face of it (that people should be allowed to CC anywhere) but it fits with what I believe is the most reasonable consideration regarding gun free zones: that if you disarm private citizens, you must at least provide armed security (for example, at a courthouse or a prison). The NRA staff being armed provides that armed security.

While I think they should remove the policy (if it exists), and I am not overly fond of the NRA, I do not think this is a case to bash them on.

This guy seems worried about what the NRA does.
Tell him that all anti-gunner are potential killers & can not be trusted with a gun---if he doesn't like that there are other things you can tell him--:D:D

Been a few years since I was at the NRA headquarters. I don't remember what the policy was back then. I do know they have a great indoor range.

"NRA headquarters in VA"

Must be hard to use the 50-yard range in the basement if you can't carry a gun into the building. :)

Ok, I know I'm new here but....the OP goes by the screen name Sgt.Murtaugh.

Hmmm, isn't that Danny Glover"s characters name in the Lethal Weapons movies Sgt.Murtaugh....and isn't Danny Glover somewhat of an activist when it comes to guns?

Just saying

I agree....most of his post are of stir:evil: the pot and back out and watch the fireworks type of threads.:neener:

My Uncles Wifes Brother Works there so I made the call,The reasons are Confidential and Long withstanding do To threats and like any other business Company Policy like 1,000's of other companies and Business Buildings..If they reveal the reasons it and would compromise Security,You have to have specific clearance and a business reason to enter the property Armed..In other words you must have a reason to be there on the premises.Kinda like a Air Force Base Security...Common sense I'd say...Just like Lethal Force being the absolute last resort, there can be other options in securing a Building as well rather than making it a Killing Field...

Sorry.
I shall not renew my membership. I am done with the NRA.

If they cannot trust me to legally carry in their building, I cannot trust them to fight for my right.

It is the same thing I do with businesses. If they are publicly anti-gun or they have a sign no gun on premises, they will not have my business. It is not bashing. It is common sense.

It is my line in the sand.

so much for not jumping to conclusions before we have all the facts......

exactly. I was about to post that every time I've been to their building, its full of people off the street carrying and *gasp* shooting guns.

I don't agree with (Republicans/Democrats) on one tiny little thing. Therefore I will vote for Hitler.

See how dumb that sounds? Life is all about picking the lesser of evils.

That said, if I got daily death threats, would I let armed strangers in my home? Heck no. Would you? I have a hard time believing you would.

Is that being hypocritical? I don't think so. Proper gun laws maximize the good guys with guns and minimize the bad guys with guns. The NRA has already stacked the deck by allowing their workers to be armed. It's their private house and they can run it how they want. My private house is not public place, not owned by the government and I should be able to run it how I want to. The NRA is not taking away your freedom to choose in any shape or form.
