Good stuff, hope you had fun Odd Job :D

This your first time shooting an SLR? I've shot plenty of them but never a Garand, much to my sadness :(

I believe if you look/listen closely enough, you will notice that the ping comes from the ejection of the EB clip, not from it striking the ground.
I do believe you're right.

I listened to the ping from that video a couple of times. The first clip goes *ping* but actually lands on his right thigh -- never hits the ground. The second clip goes *ping* on eject, than a sort of *clang* when it hits the concrete.

Never noticed that before.

I fired an R4 (Galil clone) in South Africa in 1989 on semi-auto only, and an R5 in South Africa on full auto in 2002. But this M1 has a certain 'presence' to it, that the more modern rifles lack. I agree with you, it is an awesome rifle, well worth shooting if you are afforded the opportunity.

Part of that, or perhaps most of it, and Brandon and I discussed it, is the fact that my rifle (at least the receiver) was made in 1942. So it has almost certainly seen action in WWII.

If it could only tell its story...
