Hello Fellas,

I've just found a Premier Grade Freedom Arms 83 in 50 AE sitting orphaned in my local gunshop showcase - at what looks to me to be one heck of a price. I know that Freedom no longer builds guns in this cartridge - but it looks as if it may fit in well with the loading I am now doing for my .500 S&W.

I've been loading for my S&W .500 4" for several months now and have a good collection of moulds for the .500 caliber.

It looks like this 83 50 AE might well work in concert with what I have going already. However, I am only able, so far, to find data for 325gr. for the AE. The 83 has a long enough cylinder to handle larger slugs than that. In fact, it looks like Lee Precisions 440GC would fit this lenght just fine.

Does anyone have any experience with the 50 AE in the fine Freedom Arms Model 83?

Thanks for any input,

Pacyew

I didn't even know FA chambered guns in 50 AE.

The reason load data is scarce for the AE is because the Desert Eagle is the only gun that shoots it, well only popular in production gun that shoots it. And that gun is setup around the 325 grain load.

Also, you do know that the AE is a rebated rim Auto cartridge that is much 'smaller' than the 500 case? Just checking, there's alot of confusion out there right now between these two cartridges.

I would image if anyone has loaded heavier 50 AE loads, you'll find them here though!

Good luck in your search, and definitely keep us posted!
