+P ammo ok for us in S&W 5906...what 9mm ammo has most stopping power

Try a bunch and see what you can shoot best and what your gun runs best. Personally I like the 147gr rangers, ra9t but ymmv.As Soybomb says, the best ammo is what feeds best in your gun and what you can shoot the most accurately with. Realistically, there isn't much difference between the premium loads.
That said, I chose Double Tap 147's. I chose them because they use the proven Speer Gold Dot bullet and they don't drive it at the spitwad velocities of the other companies. Their loads perform nicely out of shorter barrels and run at lower pressures than many of the other brands. The prices aren't bad either for a premium load.

Just about any quality ammunition as long as it's reliable and accurate enough for what you want. I don't care for +P ammo (will use 38 +P in K frame or larger). The extra 100 fps you get really doesn't do a lot. If you get a chane ATK/Speer has a chart comparing all their police ammo. If you can check it out and you'll see the differences between +p and standard ammo performance sometimes have to be maesured with a micrometer.
Just buy quality ammo that works well in your weapon. Contrary to what many say there is no "magic bullet".
