So the son and I went for deer in the Green Ridge State Forest in Maryland. He wanted to use the riffle he built...an AR in 6.5 grendel. Now in that part of Maryland it was buck-only. Doe come in at the end of the season, which is not this weekend, it's next weekend Dec 13 and 14. I took my Israeli Mauser in .308. We saw three deer, and only one provided a shot. It was a doe, so no shot taken.
Why is that here in the Black Powder portion of the forum?
AH because where we live in Maryland the regulations are different, than in the Western part of the state at the State Forest..., here one can take either buck or doe. In fact one often takes doe and the limit on the number of doe is high. AND..., where we live it's shotgun or Black Powder Rifle, no modern rifles. So even though I suggested it before..., now he's wondering why we don't go for deer close by, where when he sees an adult buck or doe, he can harvest it.
I gave him a TC New Englander last year in .54, and the companion 12 gauge barrel that goes with it. So Part A was to go out with his modern rifle, and deal with the restrictions...might've gotten a deer, but didn't....and now he's thinking maybe the Black Powder deer isn't such a bad idea...Part B is to get him a deer with that caplock ! God willing and his work schedule permitting...
