My uncle (the man who taught me to shoot) is getting up in years. He called me this week and invited me to have dinner tonight and afterward he said he wanted to give me my Christmas gift early. Heres the rub. I have to pick between the following two guns. Whichever I choose, his other nephew gets the other.

(1) NIB Model 10 snubbie square butt , pinned barrell, with all box and papers.
(2) NIB Model 64 snubbie round butt, pinned barrell, with all box and papers.

Now I'm a sucker for snubbies in general particularly stainless, but that Model 10 sure was pretty Both guns don't even have a turn line. I can't lose but......well you guys know what I'm going through. A little advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Blue is classy... :D

Like you say there's no losing on this deal. The question seems to come down to the square vs round butt option if you're going to shoot the gun. Or if you would keep it as a family heirloom then I still say go for the blued 10 because they DO look more classy. Especially if it's got the old super deep looking S&W blueing of days gone by.

How's the blue on the 10? If it's 98%+ I would consider it a collector and would keep it in the safe. But if you want a gun to shoot take the 64.

If the finish on the 10 is worn, it would be a toss-up.

And if you're downright evil, find out which gun your cousin wants and take that one!

Why not tell him you are having a hard time decideing since both are so good? Why not ask him if he would give you one if you bought the other from him at a proper price? The only 38 Special I have is a 4" square butt model 10-8 but I do have 2 round butt snub 357s (2 1/2" 66 and a 3" 65). My wife keeps the 66 for her home gun and I carry the 65 and the 10-8 about equally, when I'm not carrying one of my other guns.

M10 will increase in value over the years, more than the 64. Take the 10, get whatever else you like to shoot.

For USE, the 64. For COLLECTING, the 10. I don't collect, so the 64 would be my choice, but this is your choice, not mine. :) Congrats on a great Christmas gift!

Guns were made to be used. Take the one you are most likely to shoot, and you and your cousin have a Merry Christmas!!

Wish I had such troubles.....

Like the others have said, if your going to carry the revolver take the M64 because of the round butt and it's stainless so it will carry better. If you are going to shoot only at the range or keep it as a HD revolver take the M10. I just like Blue with wood better so the M10 would be my choice no matter what...

You have a great Uncle. Make sure you do something nice for him soon...

Since you can't make up your mind and everybody agrees you can't make a "wrong" choice, here's the way out of your dilemma: Let your cousin choose first! He may really have a strong preference and your uncle will be impressed at your magnanimity.
