Golden State Arms was a surplus dealer first, and they put sporters together from surplus rifles with missing, or damaged stocks, barrels, parts etc. Some were good, some weren't so good. Like CB said above, it'd be a good idea to have headspace, etc checked.
On a side note, their main store on, IIRC, 500 Green St. Pasadena, CA, seemed like a whole city block of surplus arms in the arsenal crates, just stacked on the floors.
Try to imagine acres of cases of 03's, 03A1's(one of which I later bought), 03A3's, 03A4's, M1's, M1C's, and M1D's, the last two selling for $35-50 each depending on condition(I still have a catalog).
Every mark of SMLE you could imagine, by the case. Swedish Mausers of every description(I bought a mod 94 Swedish carbine as my first centerfire rifle for $10-15 bucks).
Bofors, and Oerlikon anti aircraft guns for sale, with ammo(20 & 40mm), Finnish Lahti 20mm anti tank semi auto rifles, with the ski bipod, with ammo, cases of them. And, tons more!!
All for sale to the public.
To a kid in the 50's, it was like walking into the garden of eden.
