This is my SA GI build and everything is back together and function checks perfectly. This is the same frame and slide but new extended ejector with new retaining pin. What do you make of this unsightly alignment at the back end? This wasn't there before as a "stock" pistol, I've not fired it yet since the work was done (all by myself) but on the bench it seems to feed and extract without error.

Short of the test firing, I'll be duracoating it in combat black but I'm saving that for last once I know that everything is a go as far as fit and function.

Thoughts? Cosmetic? Problem? Notice the little ~1mm the slide lacks at the rear of being flush with the frame. Next size up in barrel link is advice I got elasewhere which I don't mind doing but thought I'd ask here, too.

Also see how the ejector is sitting...

parts list:

Wilson Combat extractor, ext ejector, hammer, firing pin, Wolff recoil spring (19#?) and firing pin spring, Smith and Alexander beavertail, S&A flat mainspring housing, STI trigger, Ext thumb safety and slide release. Otherwise all remaining parts are original to the pistol

'Til the pros weigh in.... I think that unless you changed or modified the barrel or the slide, the slide is going to be in the same place now as it was before. None of the parts mentioned, I think even including the slide stop unless it is a severely different diameter, will change that.

You may want to check the timing - Schuemann in his web site give detailed instructions.

Thats why its a head scratcher for me, I didn't change the barrel, link, bushing. I intend to tonite put the stock recoil spring, slide stop, one at a time and see if it's somewhere there.

The recoil spring cap(?) has some duracoat on it that changed the outer dimension slightly and I've had to persuade it slightly for assembly and stripping so I'll also swipe it with some 400 grit as it sticks in the slide.

Got a Springfield Mil Spec that looks just like that. It is virtually stock.

Changing the barrel link is not going to solve that problem and can really throw your timing off. If you plan on keeping that barrel then you can dress everything down flush with a file and refinish. Personally I would dress it all down and then checker the rear of the slide at 40 lines per inch and blend in the beavertail and frame and refinish. But that's just me. But first you need to have someone check out the barrel fit and timing and make sure the gun is not going to beat itself up from incorrect link timing. What you have appears to be solely cosmetic issues which annoy the hell out of some people more than others. Smiths make nice easy money fixing this cosmetic stuff. I used to.

Thanks for all the inputs so far!!!!

I got home and stripped it down, cleaned up the spring cap/plug and got it to fit just free enough to not drag on the slide, that didn't correct it. Changed back to the stock recoil spring, that didn't fix it. Changed back to the stock slide stop, not there either.
I cycled the pistol and pushed down on the barrel hood and I have <1mm? of downward movement where it stops. 1mm might be too much, I can't measure it, but it's a tiny amount of downward movement.
Being that those parts outside the slide stop are stock, I'll call it cosmetic and test fire it. But I'll be sure to turn away when I do...maybe that's funny and maybe it isn't. All need to remember just one round at a time in the magazine, too, in case she runs wild.

I'm nervous now lol
