Groton — When City police were called to the aid of a gunshot victim Sunday night, they didn't have to look any farther to find the shooter.
Police said Jacob Philips accidentally shot himself in the left leg with a Springfield .45-caliber handgun. Police were called to 60 Allen Street just after 8 p.m., where they found Phillips wounded.

Phillips was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police said they do not expect to find evidence of foul play, but will continue to investigate the situation.

Police said Phillips did have a gun permit.

Boy, it seems there are a lot of ND type happenings lately... I wonder if they will yank this guys permit?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did up here.

On an interesting note, Saturday I was in the only semi-decent sized local gun shop still in business someone pulled out a Springfield XD 45 to show me,, out of the blue. He dropped the mag and cleared it properly, but it is still a big no-no to do that in this particular shop...

I am wondering what the odds are it was the same guy? :uhoh:

Looks like any of those pistols that are similar to a glock in design are easy to have an ad or nd, many seem to be doing it. Single action is one that it can happen also (when in the single action mode and hit the trigger):what:Had one at a range and could see the damage. I wonder if it was mentioned to be a Glock? I went shooting this weekend and lots of folks shooting of late. Guess they are getting ready for the problem they think might be coming.:uhoh:

Isn't that Darwin-T who has posted here about his own ND with a .45? Seeing that he has posted a thread about this, I say we close this one and not try to figure out what happened to him when we can just as easy read about it and just learn from his well documented mistake. I admire a person that can stand up and say he was wrong.

Two different instances george.

If the thread stays open, I will post any follow ups. I am wondering if it was the pull trigger to strip it that got him...

thats alright i know a guy who shot competitively, works with firearms all day at his job (for a manufacturer that will remain nameless) and holds his CT permit. Pulled out a springfield .45 right in the middle of Hoffmans "to see if it fit in the holster i was gonna buy." What an idiot. And no it wasnt the same guy either. Needless to say he isnt welcome back there and theres a big sign in the holster section and on the front doors of the store not to brandish any weapon or unconceal no matter what. Thats why I have my permit to protect myself from all the crazies no matter what form they come in

That's assuming he had an XD and not a 1911.

Both the XD and the 1911 Springers have grip-safteties, while the Glocks do not. IMNSHO, a lot harder to have an AD with a Springer, though not impossible.
