Found a Series 70 Colt Combat Commander at my LGS. Seems to be in good shape mechanically, has no finish remaining. The dealer said that they stripped the finish in order to make it presentable. (Apparently the previous owner shot it very little but did not maintain it.) I took it apart, function checked it and everything seemed good mechanically. They want $450. Good deal? If I get it, it's going to be a project/ccw gun.

The satin finish of the combat commander was not a good finish. It showed wear very quickly. If it is mechanically good to go you could get it refinished for $170 or so.

First, there's technically no Series 70 Combat commander. Yes, their early serial numbers were in the 70 range (my father owns one; his is hard-chromed), but they are best described as "pre-Series 80". They incorporated the new safety system from the 80 series pistols, but have a few transitional features. For purposes of replacement parts, they are a Series 80.
