I found a used stainless Colt Combat Commander in good shape with two mags. Guy wants $600 out-the-door. Yea or nay?

Yea.

I just bought a NIB blued Combat Commander OTD for $800.

Yep, many are. I think that it will only affect the signage and not the value.

ie: '70 type Colt Combat Commander .

Yes, do the deal on the Combat Commander; that's a good price for one.

GBExpat

The Combat Commanders never carried the MK IV/Series 70 rollmark on their slide. It only appeared on the full size Government and Gold Cup models. One reason may be that the full sized guns used the new collet barrel bushing, while the Commander series still used the solid barrel bushing.

Thanks for participating in my ongoing education, guys!

I traded it off because it was too heavy for me to comfortably carry under my jacket ... and it wasn't long before I started missing it. I replaced it with a Walther PP (I had owned a PPK/S prior) ... which was much more comfortable.

I am sorry that it was "too heavy" for you.

All of my 1911s are full size, but none have the balance of a commander.

Actually, I found it to be too heavy AND bulky for comfortable CCW under a suit coat with its pancake holster attached to a narrow "suit belt". I was 6' & ~165 at the time and the style was "European Cut" (slender/tight) and it was just a bit too much. The PP in its Roy's Pancake, fit tight against my kidney and I would soon not even realize the extra weight was there.

I now own several full-size 1911s and one chopped variant ... but none quite match my memories of how natural that Commander felt ... o'course, memories will often lie ... ;)

Glad to see I inspired a thread hijack. ;)

<chuckle> In my experience, any thread that goes beyond 5 responses has an even chance of wandering off of the original path.

BTW, last night I resisted the urge to bid on a CC on Gunbroker ... it was hard to resist but thinking about the 28(?) pistols that I currently have (barely) convinced me that I do not "need" another right now.

So - to the OP: did you pull the trigger on the deal?

600 would be a pretty good deal for that pistol in this neck of the woods as the Combat Commanders seem to be a tad scarcer up here than the Lightweights. Can't even find blued LWCs any more for under 700, most seem to be asking 800 around here.

Who says Colt's did not make Combat Commanders in series 70's I have four of them, so they must have made at least 6 or 7 of them

Jump on that deal before it gets away.
A local dealer had another one I liked but I took a couple days to think it over. When I went back to buy it, he'd sold it about an hour after I first looked at it. You just don't see CC's going for $600 or less.

I have a Satin Nickel Colt Combat Commander and it does not have a "70-Series" roll-mark. The serial number starts with 70SC.

This is all a matter of names.

There were Combat Commanders made in the 1970s. They were never named "Series 70".

The "Series 70" nomenclature belongs specifically to Government-length pistols that had collet bushings.

Combat Commanders with "70SC" or "70BS" serial numbers were (for the most part) made in the 1970s, but are NOT called "Series 70 Combat Commander".

Here it is

Okay, I got it and here it is. I'm going to replace the comp/bushing for a standard bushing and buy some nice wood stocks. Also, I'm thinking of a light bead blast to smooth out some of the cosmetic nicks and scrapes. Any suggestions?
