PT for Hunting?

I myself walk 3+ Miles a day with a 40 Pound pack and go up to 110 Pounds a month before the hunt.

10 Miles on Saturday.

Anyone else train for the hunt?
 
Have hunted mostly flatlands and swamps where I only had to walk no more than 1/2 mile or so.

When hunting in WVA on wifes family land it wears me out. Damn near have a heart attack draggin a deer up hills. Thank God for 4 wheelers.
 
Up until about five years ago, I pretty much stayed in good shape. Now, my back won't let me go very far, no matter what condition my legs are in. Gettin' old ain't for the faint of heart.

But it's easier to stay in shape than to get in shape. Probably one of the best deals is a pair of these wraparound ankle-weights, plus use the stairs instead of an elevator...

I try and stay in shape in general. When I go out West, I kick up the weight lifting, and jogging/stairmaster. When you are carrying a rifle that comes in at about 12lbs, running up and over those mountains is not easy. I found that if I can do 5 miles of hard jogging/running that I can keep up with my Montana friends with little to no problems. The weights help in carrying that heavy rifle and then helps in dragging the game off the side of that mountain.:)
 
I think that fitness should be a year round thing instead of a seasonal thing. Normally I lift, hit the heavy and speed bags, do calisthenics, and run. At bare minimum, I try to at least run 2 miles every other day.
 
I mountain and road bike as much as weather allows, builds leg strength but easy on the knees. As fall hunting season comes around, I'll go on hikes in the foothills if I'm stuck in town for the weekend. Else I'll be out scouting/fishing/camping/shooting which gives me plenty of chances to stretch my legs.

And I've started to hit the gym when the flakes fly or it's too dark outside.
