What is the deal with the PTR-91. How does it compare to the G-3 and genuine HK weapons? How is the reliability, accuracy, etc.? Any pictures of the PTR in action? Thanks.

I have one, and I can't complain! It's a quality weapon that can be purchased at an excellent price NIB from CDNN. Use the search function on any rifle forum and you'll get pages of excellent info.

You'll find that those of us that have PTR's love the beasts.

Scoped with handloads, mine does 1MOA @100yds.:)

You ought to search the threads here for more info. Lots of threads on them.

It's as good as an original G3, no practical difference. They are made on original G3 manufacturing equipment.

Reliability is outstanding. Accuracy is what it is, same as a G3; acceptable for a main battle rifle. (2-3 MOA with surplus ammo)

That youtube video depicts marksmanship at its most basic, and a common complaint about gun nuts, namely that we are a whole bunch of litterbugs with no sense. All that glass on the ground there you can bet those guys didn't pick up. Probably left the chassis behind for someone else to see... eyesore.

Now.

That taken care of...

The PTR91 is a neat rifle. It is accurate and easy to clean, once you get the right tools. I really like mine.

My HK91 is far from a marksman's rifle. I use my K-31 for that. :)

And FYI, all the debris was picked up and disposed of, so don't get your panties in a wad. But thanks for judging me without knowing all the facts.

I finally got my new(to me) Ferro Z24 scope zeroed last weekend. Got a couple of 2" groups and put about 25 into less than 4.5" all with South African surplus. I figure that is a good start. I think I can do better though even with that ammo. I haven't tried it with quality ammo yet, and I keep hearing about Bill Springfield who does good trigger work.

Pretty standard you know :) Cool video.

If you do a thread search, you will find on old threads, compliants about the newly introduced PTR 91's.

I believe that PTR fixed all the problems. You just don't hear the same stuff anymore.

My PTR91 is a great rifle. With a Bill Springfield trigger job, I have a rifle I really like. I like the fact that the barrel is a new, Thompson Center made, barrel. I am certain that it is of higher quality than any military surplus barrel.

I took my PTR91 to a friend who has owned German HK91's, and he had a HK submachine gun. It was his opinion that the PTR91's workmanship was equal to his HK91. I examined his HK machine gun, and the PTR91 was at least equal in fit and finish.

Anyone recommend a good scope for the ptr91 perfer as high power optics as it will handle without charging handle interference. Also would like illuminate recticle but not mandatory any suggestions fromyou ptr91 guys

I mean in terms of accuracy, reliability, durability, ease of maintenance, parts availability...
They are very similar in those regards.

The Hk doesn't have a last round bolt hold open device. The FAL does in most configurations and can be re-activated quickly in those not so equipped.
