Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the months of October/November/December 2013! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, .17WSM, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

    There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance of irons div. returned to 25yds.

    There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Target Class: unlimited class primarily dedicated to target rifles but also includes any rifles that do not meet the prerequisites for the sporting division (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, sub-.20cal. chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Class: limited class for sporting rifles used in "field conditions" (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both divisions (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image attached below (we've shot this one before, but I think it was a good one, so lets give it another go). Scale to "fit to page" on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire as many shots as necessary at the individual "holes" until the edge of the dot has been broken. The target is scored as one point for each shot (up to 5, after which time you can just mark a five for that "hole" and continue), with a 2pt. penalty being assessed for each "sand-trap" hit. Note that, just like golf, the lower the score the better, with the shooter that attains the lowest score being the winner.

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

[strike]If you enjoyed this match and want a bit more challenge, or just compare your rimfires to their larger cousins, check out the concurrent Centerfire Match (now quarterly).[/strike] Discontinued till further notice (Will likely be up and running again later this month).

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated; all submissions due before October 32nd. ;)

I think I printed some of these out but never got to shoot them. I'll definitely get to it this time.

Great to have you on board, Texas4x4hoe.

Could you or someone else make a properly sized PDF file of this? I can't seem to get my browser to print any bigger than a 75% scale image of this one.

You have a Mac by chance?

Nope, old HP PC that I keep running with duct tape and baling wire (plus WD 40 for the fan bearings)

Probably won't be able to shoot this one til around the end of November - had my pacemaker replaced a couple weeks ago and cardiologist won't let me shoot (even .22lr) until he does the next follow-up visit on the 20th of November. If I can find where it came from on the internet, I can download it and make the PDF myself.

Sorry to be so late to the punch, I've been very busy all day, and I haven't the software to convert it to .pdf format with me (I'm out of town for a couple of weeks). This one was created by a fellow THR member so I can't even refer you to the source on the internet...that said I will arrange for someone else to convert it for me if need be. Just let me know if you guys have any more problems and I'll get it done one way or another.

I miss participating in these so much! I have yet to be able to obtain more .22lr ammo but I've been getting closer. Hopefully I can get some and put some holes in paper for this one.

Good luck, Centurian22. If you're not too picky (like myself) you can probably find a box or two if you stand fast and keep looking, at least that's what I have seen at home.

    Hey Centurian22,

I have an unopened 325 round bulk pack of Federal "Auto Match" that I'd ship you for $20 (originally paid $18.95 + tax at Walmart) plus whatever UPS charges to ship it to you. (Unfortunately, the UPS shipping charges for even that small parcel might be more than the cost of the ammo).

PM me if you're interested. It isn't the best ammo in the world, but I have had fair luck with it in my standard 10/22's. It always seems to go "BANG" and cycles the semi-autos just fine and it would at least let you get out and shoot some.

I only have one of these but sending it to you won't cut into my shooting as I have plenty of my favorite Wolf "Match Target" stuff on hand and no, the Wolf ain't for sale - ;)

Hi Guys........I guess somebody's got to be first.
What a great idea.....buddy and me played three rounds of golf on the
weekend. Just like the real game I got a couple of good holes then got
cocky and blew one out of the water.
Thank you Maverick for going to all the trouble to set up these little competitions........now how about more shooters.

I'm shooting a Savage Mk 11 with a 4-16 Simmons at 50 yds off sandbags.
Could use better optics ( and better eyes too )

    gonna try again soon

Welcome to the match, Jimmy M., and despite your longstanding membership welcome to THR as well (I figure that nobody has been afforded the opportunity to properly welcome you considering that this is your inaugural post). Also, thank you for getting us started...I think your first post is a well placed one. I hope that you enjoy the match and return for many more!

That's the spirit! :p Hope you get a nice calm day to better your score (BTW, and you probably already know this, but just in case you don't, you can submit as many attempts as you like).

Realizing that not many who are shooting 10/22's in the matches will be using the Ruger BX-25 magazines, but most of us have one or two of them. Over on Rimfire Central, there's a guy (forum nickname - Sallowpad) that is advertising a follower bushing fix for the older mags having feeding problems. I got mine in this morning (they aren't cheap, being CNC machined out of super quality aluminum at 15 bucks a pop, plus shipping, but IMO they are worth it). They take all the slop out of the follower and keep it from allowing a cartridge to nosedive or stick up too far causing a jam, or, heaven forbid, a "slamfire".

They are fairly easy to install and have a much wider lip than the original plastic bushing. This makes them follow the track in the magazine much more smoothly and keeps the follower positioned properly through the entire range of travel. This even makes it easier to load cartridges into the magazine and saves some wear and tear on your thumb!
