Howdy all,

Work and some things in my life have kept me away from from THR and away the shooting scene for almost a year now. Whe I last visited these forums the Ruger LCP was just released, with high hopes. I read something about a recall some time ago.

Bottom line, now that some time has passed, how are they?
* Reliability?
* Safety?
* Accuracy?

(PS ... I know the limits of a small pistol. I'm looking for something to carry when I can't carry anything else)

Thanks much!!!

LCP

From what I have read, Ruger has been handling the recalls...it was a deal where if dropped with a round in the chamber, the gun could fire. That's not the first time I've heard that about an automatic pistol, not just the LCP, so I really don't think the recall was a big deal. Guns with a diamond shape stamped on the rear under the hammer are either produced after the recall or have been sent back and handled.

Like you, I also know the limitations of a .380...but the sheer size and convenience of the LCP means that it can always be with me. It's my choice for everyday concealed carry. A gun aint worth crap if you leave it at home. Of course I'd rather have my Kimber .45 if a gunfight went down, but there's no way I could carry it all the time.

Accuracy is supposed to be on par with other pocket size .380s, and is supposed to be very reliable.

I hope so, because my local gun store finally got in 6 today...and I bought #6...been looking at them and reading about them for awhile.

I've had mine about a month. I have fired it twice, probably 100 rounds each time. Only had 1 jam, and I think it was the bullet.

I really like it, carrying it everywhere with me in my front pocket with a uncle mike's #1 pocket holster. If you buy one new, make sure the serial # starts with 371. That means it is after recall built.

I know it's not the best carry, but it's better than nothing.

Three LCPs in the family right now, self, son & wife.

All work well, very easy to conceal in a pocket Nemesis, hardly notice you're carrying it.

Ours don't seem to like MagTech .380 or the 88gr Remington HP Green/White box. Other stuff runs through like stuff through a goose. Carry load is Corbon DPX.

No regrets on buying any of them but we got them at the early price, @ $275.

This SHOT show has seen a couple of other possibilities debut so if you are not in a hurry you might do a bit of research on the new ones. Taurus has a compact .380 now, Sig brought out a .380 and I think someone else did too. I wouldn't buy a Kel-Tec or even another LCP until I saw/handled/researched the new offerings.

Somebody may have invented a better mousetrap...er, mousegun.

I absolutely love my (post-recall) LCP. Mine has over 800 rounds fired and looks and performs like new. I was surprised to discover that the LCP was more than just a belly gun. I can hold 5" patterns at 15-yards and 8" patterns at 25-yards. I do carry other large caliber weapons when my attire allows, but the deep concealment LCP is with me 100% of the time.

My hidden buddy:

Mine goes everywhere I go, and eats what I feed it so, I have made it a permant fixture. Not to be sold for any reason, for any amount.

Holds decent patterns for the little sights, and fits in the back pocket.
Whats not to like.

can't say yet , I only have 1550 flawless rounds through my lcp, combined before and after the recall.!!!!

I have an LCP, and have enjoyed it. The recall was very fast, and for a free mag, it was worth it. I had one FTE about round 60(wwb fmj) and none since(about 300 now).

Uncle Mikes No1 as well.

Must be nice... Went to the the local Sportsman's Warehouse to check one out about two weeks ago. None in stock. Waiting list? **32** people ahead of me - for that particular pistol - in po-dunk Washington. I would have been number 33. No PPKs in .380 (or .32). No P22's except in pink. Very limited Glocks. Some Sigs and high end (well, they're all high end to me) Kimbers, a fair amount of revolvers. Some .22 autos. :( Salesman said he hoped to get six LCPs in this month. Bought a like-new P230 instead for $400. This blows...

ToadPS, how you got three is a mystery to me.

Find a decent local gun shop. That's where I got mine. I actually get a lot of my guns from Sportsman's Warehouse, but for high demand and low supply guns like the LCP you will only find yourself on that much larger of a waiting list at the bigger franchise stores. Local gun shops are probably your best bet for finding one.

Hi CP. I think maybe I'll stop by tomorrow and see if the nearest local (within 30 miles) shop can order one for me. Actually there is one closer but he's much more of a gunsmith than a stocking shop. Nice if you need your hunting rifle worked on. Really nice folks and cheap transfers, though.

I plan to buy an LCP once prices come back to earth. The amount they are selling for lately on GunBroker is crazy.

I've got a P32 I love, and the LCP offers more pop in a better finished package. Still a breeze to pocket carry.

LCP is a breeze to carry, so much that if you're not careful, you won't notice if it falls out..

Its very accurate for what it is, but it can be a handful..

pretty much, they are a good gun. i really can not ever imagine selling mine. a few jams in the first 200 rounds, after that, i have only had one, and that was because the gun collected to much pocket dirt/dust/lint. cleaned it up, and it is right back to being like "old faithful". when i practice, i use a paper plate @ 20 feet. i have no trouble hitting inside that. good enough for me.

Love my LCP, 500 rounds and counting, before and after the recall. one box of remington Jammed but that is all. Light and easy to carry, I carry in my shorts, and sandles...not the best stopping power but I always have it with me.

Mine is a month old or so... 371 series. standing rapid fire groups about 4-5 inch circle at 21 feet, absolutely reliable so far with Hornady TAP, fiocci fmj, winchester fmj, magtech fmj. A remarkable little pistol. very light recoil for a nearly weightless design.

ToadPS, how you got three is a mystery to me.

All three are from the KC Cabela's. I had worked there but left a few months before I bought them. This was before they jacked the price up, while no one was real sure what kind of "legs" sales would have for the LCP.

You just have to know the rules. At that time KC Cabelas would Hold a gun 5 days if you just reserved it over the phone; no deposit required.

I was in looking at guns and asked them if they had any LCPs. The Outfitter looked it up in the computer and said they had two but both were on Hold. I asked him to check and see how long they had been on Hold. At this time (might have changed Hold procedures now) the dates were hand written on the Hold tags so he had to go check the actual gun box.

He came back with one and said this one is past 5 days and so was the other one. I just said I'd take both of them.

That's how I got the first two; just knowing the hold rules and being ready to buy immediately. They're so busy that they don't go through looking for expired Holds every day. It was pretty lucky really.

At the time I bought the pair, I put in a "special order" for another one. That just put me in line for a purchase the next time any shipped to the store from the Distribution Center. A month or two later they got 5 and they called and said do you still want it. I went down and picked it up. I think 3 others were before me so only one went into stock and it probably sold that day.

So, self, wife and son all have one now.

I'm cool for pocket pistols until I see a 9x19 the size of the LCP that doesn't cost any where near as much as a Rohrbaugh. :)

I think we'll see some in the not too awfully distant future. When the marketing guys finally wake up and smell the coffee, things get done in a hurry.

They've finally figured out there's a huge market for small pocket pistols; LCP sales probably opened a lot of eyes. Now the brighter ones will do some research (maybe in places like this) and find out that a lot of guys would like more power than a .380 in an LCP size pistol.

So, in my optimistic view, I think a few firms will give it a try.

If they do, and it's a decent pistol, I'll put in a special order for 3 at Cabela's.

Hey all! new guy here!
I Just bought my LCP today at a gun show, with extra mag and pocket holster.
The guy said it had 2 mags through it. Basicly brand new, box, lock and everything. $325
I'm exited to get out and try it out! :D

so around 300 hundred or so is a good price?? I plan on buying one tom. if my gunshop has it in stock. I really need a pocket pistol

Sportsman's Warehouse

Man, I feel your pain about Sportsman's Warehouse....sounds like you have the same stocking pattern as we have here in Kentucky. They have been WIPED OUT of ammo here for weeks. Seriously, no 9mm, no 45, no 40, no 38, no 380...and our gun wall sounds nearly identical to yours.

I was lucky to call a little local shop here on the right day as he was unboxing 6 LCP...I told him to put one back for me and hot-footed across town. $279, brand spankin new in the box, with 2-mags, one of the mag extensions, and the soft case. Picked a Desantis Nemesis off the shelf and was out the door for $317 tax in.

Can't beat that with a stick compared to what I'm hearing elsewhere. I'm fortunate to have Antique & Modern Firearms here in Lexington (great folks) and Bud's Gun Shop about 15 minutes to the East in Paris (killer selection and stock levels on guns). That keeps my checkbook singing.

Yeah, BQ that's a great deal. I got mine with one mag and no holster (just the soft bag that comes with it) for $300. around here that's as good as it gets. Got a couple more mags on gunbroker for $18 each, slip it in the nemesis I bought for my j-frame (loose but I prefer it; easy to draw) and I'm set.

Mine worked flawlessly before the recall and after as well. It goes in my pocket almost all the time, except now in winter I carry the Sig P229 or Glock 17. I await a holster for the 5.7, but I consider the LCP t be totally trustworthy.
