Any differences between the rc an the rc II except the handles ? Is the RC "better" than the RC II ?

The RC had a plastic bicycle grip, a crinkle paint finish and could only accept 7/8 x 14 dies*.
The RC II had a ball handle, epoxy paint and a removable die bushing for larger dies.
The RC Supreme has a longer stoke, larger opening and a ambidextrous handle mount.
*There are exceptions to some of these differences but that should give you a rough idea.

Hey 00,

My RockChucker as well as all others I have seen all have a removable die bushing for the big die sets. I never used any bigger die sets, but I have removed the bushing just to see it.

Does the RockChucker II have something different in the die bushing thing, or am I missing something here?

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

David Wile, I have two Rock Chuckers with Piggy Back 11s mounted on them, to mount a Piggy Back 11 on a Rock Chucker the center bushing must be removed.

It is possible (for me) to add height to the Rock Chucker, not necessary, I have a modified DAKE arbor press, when sizing on that press there is no such thing as a case that whips my press or a case that is too tall because of limited space, the shell holder is installed into the arbor and the die is mounted in a threaded plate centered on the bottom.

Hey F.,

I am aware the RockChucker has a bushing that brings it down to regular die size. Otto said in his statement the RockChucker could only use regular size dies while the RockChucker II had a removable die bushing for larger dies. I know my regular RockChucker was one of the first RockChuckers made, and it has a removable die bushing like Otto said was found on the RockChucker II.

Based on what Otto said, I wanted to know from him if there was something else about the difference between the two. I am not familiar with the RockChucker II other than to see pictures of it. The pics I saw showed the ball handle instead of the bike grip like is on mine, but the rest looked the same in the pics I have seen. So, what is the difference between the bushings on the original and the II?

Thanks for the the two PDF files on the presses. I saved them for future use.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

The RCII is a smaller press (slightly) I can run 300 win mag through my RC all day long, but the clearance my RCII is just barely too small to accommodate when seating bullets.

Hey BTP,

I had no idea the II is a smaller press. I assume the II replaced the original RockChucker, but I have no idea when that might have been. I think I got my RockChucker in 1968 or 1969 when they first came on the market. Do you have any idea when the II replaced the original?

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

“The RC had a plastic bicycle grip, a crinkle paint finish and could only accept 7/8 x 14 dies*”

David Wile, I am sure you are correct, the part that drove me into the curb was “.....could only accept 7/8 X 14 dies*”

I have Herter presses, the bushing in my Herter presses fit the RCBS Rock Chucker, when I remove the bushing from my Herter presses I find my shotgun dies fit the press with the bushing removed. There is a difference between the height of the bushing when going from one press to the other, not a problem but the shotgun die requires a shell holder, I have Herter shell holders for shot gun, I do not have RCBS shell holders that fit a shotgun.

Page 11 bottom left side list bushings with inside and out side thread count and size. When going through the parts catalog for presses the bushing numbers do not agree, the difference is in the height of the bushing*.

*The catalog list one number, other bushings are available, then there is:

+ I have a 1986 catalog that list new presses and the difference, the Reloader 2 & 3 does not have a bushing, the Rock Chucker is listed as having a bushing with a number different from the one listed in the special order catalog. The number is key 15 #09138, cost $3.67.

The Big Max list a bushing #09161, again, the difference in in the height.
