I sent a message to them about their no carry signs (which carry weight of Law in Ohio) and this is what I got in return:

February 12, 2013

Dear <real name>:

Thank you for taking the time to communicate your concerns regarding our facility security policies. Please understand that Regal Entertainment Group, with the assistance of safety experts and law enforcement personnel, has developed policies and procedures designed to provide the safest environment for our guests and employees. Rest assured these policies and procedures are not designed with the intent to inconvenience or otherwise cause hardship to our guests. However, we believe these policies appropriate to assure the general safety of all guests and employees.

Please note all law enforcement officers, whether on or off duty, are exempt from our gun prohibition policy in the theatre, as long as they identify themselves as such either by display of a badge or other identification upon request.

Again, thank you for taking the time to advise us of your concerns.

Sincerely,
Customer Relations Department
Operational Services
Regal Entertainment Group

I replied:
Thank you for your response.

Considering recent events in which the LAPD have gone into panic mode and are shooting innocent civilians at random based on nothing more than their driving pickup trucks, I believe that *your* trust in them which allows them to be armed while denying a lawfully trained and licensed individual to protect himself and his family is both irresponsible and dangerous.

Rest assured that I have both your business and our safety in mind. Bear in mind that the State of Ohio has already determined that I met or surpassed all requirements to provide for my own safety, yet you have decided to disallow my lawfully demonstrated right.

Please note that not only will I, my family and friends no longer do business with you, but as an individual and as a member of several of the largest firearm forums on the internet, I will both publicize your response and support a boycott of your businesses.

Thank you for taking the time to clearly state Regal Entertainment Group's lack of respect for individual rights. Best of luck in filling your theatres with law enforcement personnel.

Folks...if we don't all stand up to these self serving businesses they will continue to deny us our rights.

Thanks for reading,
Nasty

Yes, boycotts work

On Saturday night the wife and I were going out to see a movie. We were going to Regal Cinemas in Hyannis, Ma. Because of a major snow storm the theater was closed and we went home disappointed. Glad it happened that way now. Rescheduling our night out will not include a Regal Cinema'

Dear Regal Cinemas,

Thank you for your prompt reply. If I am reading your response correctly, it appears that you are assuming absolute responsibility, and thus liability, for the safety of me and my immediate family while we are on the premises and while we are between the building and our automobile. By disallowing me the possibility of protecting myself and my family you are adopting those responsibilities to yourself.

Please let this communication memorialize your acknowledgement and acceptance of any and all liability if any criminal event should occur in any of the above areas, in which a reasonable person could have provided self protection.

I carry in those areas anyways as it's not illegal to do. I think alot of people do. If they somehow actually notice my firearm and get nervous, that's their problem and not mine.

All I care to say is that concealed is concealed. What they don't know won't hurt them. The only thing that can be done is ask you to leave.

Depends on location, some states signage carries weight of law others it dosn't. Like here in florida, if noticed they can ask you to leave but it's not a violation of prohibited places. What is illegal is if you refuse and the cops get involved, because then not only is it tresspas but armed trespass. Another example would be TX, I believe they have a specific sign that refrences the statute which can make a place legaly off limits for carry. Any other signage carries no weight of law, meaning all they can do is ask you to leave, vs a direct charge for unlawfull carry.

That works in states where no gun signs posted on private property do not carry the weight of law. However in some states, like the OP's Ohio, carrying on private property posted can carry the same weight as carrying in a restricted area such as a courthouse.

Shortly after the Aurora shooting. A local town police department did a knee jerk and sent a detective who half heartingly checked purses and bags for weapons. I was carrying a primary and a BUG, wife was carrying a primary in her purse and a BUG on her. We both identified ourselves as military personnel and went through with a handshake.

In Ohio, if they think you are carrying in a posted area, they don;t need to confront you. They can call a cop and if the officer finds you armed, you are in violation.

If the Judge finds you guilty of a minor offense, the Court can let you off with *only* a 2 year suspension of your CCW.

Thanks to those in support.

In most states it simply doesn't matter what a business posts concerning cc. However with that said, if you are "outed" while cc on their property and they ask you to leave you have to leave. If you agree to leave there is nothing further they can do. Otherwise if you refuse to leave you can be trespassed when the po-po arrive.....

My local Regal is posted --- hasn't stopped me from carrying a deeply concealed weapon on the few occasions that I go out to walk on sticky floors, sit on dirty seats (with popcorn crunching underfoot) to see an overrated movie.

I havent noticed a sign here in lexington. I attend movies there often and i carry. Concealed means concealed and in Kentucky the signs hold no legal weight. If asked to leave because of it I of course would.

lono,

Woodhill used to be posted no carry. If I have to go there I'm no going unarmed. We've been harassed a few times in the parking lot.

Is there a site that states exactly what each states laws are?

I'm not sure that some of the comments that are being posted here are correct.

It would be nice to see some laws linked to the claims here.

Just so everyone understands.

Thanks, AF

Carrying a gun into a Federal building is a crime however in most cases carrying a firearm into a business that doesn't allow guns is simply breaking a rule. You can be arrested if you are caught carrying a gun into a Federal building, you will get asked to leave if you are caught carrying a gun into a business with a "no guns" sign.

I've been carrying into Regal for years and I've seen their no gun sign. I'd rather be alive because I broke the rules then dead because a business owner or company is anti-gun. I won't carry into a place where it is a crime to carry but if I get kicked out of a business because they don't like that I carry a firearm then it's their loss because they just lost a customer.
