Registering a gun?

I have a question... I own a handgun that was once owned by my father. He purchased the gun from a dealer. They did the whole background check rigamaroo... I live in Alabama and I know there are no registrations required in AL.

My question is this: when my dad purchased the gun from the dealer, did it get registered in his name in any databases?

I'm not sure about Alabama, but in Texas, when you fill out the 4473, it stays with the dealer for 20 years. If he goes out of business, he's supposed to send all his paperwork in to the revenuers.
