Does any one on this forum have one? Did you do it your self or have a smith do one for you? I am thinking of getting it done to mine but wanted to get some first hand accounts before I go jacking up my rifle... :D

Thanks!

Yep, I am going to have to... Seems like such a simple concept but not so easy to do...

Thanks!

I've been wanting to do the same thing for a while now. I just haven't taken the time to do it yet.

The magazine retention is going to be the toughest part, if you want to retain the removable magazine design. In my research. HS Precision and Badger Ordnance both make removable magazine bottom metal. But you must use their magazines. However, (just from looking at up close pictures on the net), it looks like one of them could use a modified M1A magazine. I have not held them (bottom metal or magazine) in my hands to compare possible fitment and modifications. But it looks like it might be possible. And before you ask, I don't remember which brand looked like it could be done with. I think B.O., but I'm not really sure.

True for H-S Precision ... not true for Badger Ordnance which uses the Accuracy International magazine design. I'm not that familiar with M1A magazines, but aren't they a double stack or staggered type? One common feature shared by the detachable magazine kits below is that the magazines are all single stack variants. This makes me wonder if an M1A magazine would present problems for the 700 ... just a hunch though. I can only think of two possible benefits of using M1A magazines ... they're cheaper than AI magazines, and the largest AI magazines only hold 10 rounds whereas 20-round M1A magazines are common. For a hunting rifle, the second benefit is moot and I only plan on using 5-round AI magazines with my rifle, albeit, two or three of them.

Here's a list of some of the better known DM kits out there. I ordered a CDI Precision Gunworks kit and should have it shortly.

Seekins Precision uses proprietary Seekins magazines.

H-S Precision uses proprietary H-S magazines.

Badger Ordnance uses BO and Accuracy International magazines.

Pierce Engineeing uses AI magazines - looks similar to the BO kit.

CDI Precision Gunworks uses AI magazines but magazine release doesn't extend below the 5-round short action magazine.

V-Bull Precision uses AI magazines. (another link).

Added in Edit: CORRECTION ... the CDI Precision Gunworks DM kit for the Remington 700 DOES have a magazine release lever that extends below the bottom of a 5-round AI magazine. :( I just received mine today (July 18th).
